(CNN) – Ask Dylan Thompson to name his career highlights, and fans might expect to hear about one of his big moments as South Carolina's backup quarterback - like the time he led the Gamecocks to victory over rival Clemson, or when he threw the game-winning touchdown with 11 seconds left in the Outback Bowl.


But while Thompson said he's proud of his team’s accomplishments as well as his own, nothing really compares to what happened to him off the field his freshman year.


“Being saved and dedicating my life to Christ is actually the greatest thing that’s ever happened to me,” Thompson said.


His desire to spread the Gospel and share his faith propelled Thompson and his mentor, Jack Easterby, to come up with The Bible Out Loud project, an online initiative aimed at getting Christians to memorize and recite Scripture.

awesome. I know this topic is sensitive with a lot of posters here so i won't jump into religion. Glad to see Dylan accomplishing his goals.. if he wants to spread the word. CNN is a pretty big stage.

Yeah, I know some are sensitive, but this is one of our players getting positive national attention. This article is very unusual for CNN. Even people who aren't religious should be able to appreciate that Thompson's image is good for USC.

Yeah, I mean I don't share his beliefs, but I could name about a million things that he could be written about on a national stage that would make him and all of us look bad. So I'm all for it. More power to him.

serious question for you... wouldn't it be easier for you just to just stay away from this thread and others like it that you absolutely know are going to turn into religious threads. You know by the VERY first post in this thread that it is going to end up being about faith, etc. because that is what the ENTIRE article was about.

Now this is a great attitude. Whether or not you're a fan of his beliefs, his faith motivates him to work his hardest and play his best. It gives him confidence in his abilities. My hope is that it will also keep him from doing any activities that might embarrass the university.

As Connor is not mentioned in the opening post, I hope that it is obvious that I did not intend for this to be a thread pitting one against the other.

I just think it's wonderful to hear positive things about one of our athletes on the national stage. It also focuses more attention on our program. That's a win for all Gamecock fans.

Good for Dylan. Its good to see a person in his position standing up for and believing in something much bigger than football. Goes to show you that there are more important things than just a silly game.
