I stumbled on an excellent read about former Gamecock catcher Landon Powell and the trials and tribulations he and wife went through regarding the recent death of their daughter. Check it out:

If any of you can read that without tearing up...
It is truly heartbreaking what they are going through. I cannot imagine having the say good bye to Little Man. |

Thanks for sharing this. What a horrible experience for any parent to go through. When something like this happens to your child, especially when it's so rare, you want to ask "Why me?" Instead, they have taken this issue and tried to turn it into a positive despite all of their pain.
I met Landon a few years ago when he played in Sacramento (AAA team for the A's). He was so nice and even gave me his phone number. Told me if I ever wanted tickets to a game, let him know.

They're going through a horrible time right now, but I really wish him the best with the Mets. He got caught up in a rough spot in Oakland, so hopefully a change of scenery will be good for his career.

No parent should have to bury their child. One thing is certain, Izzy never lacked for love!
Thoughts for the family are sent from mine.

I posted this article on my Facebook...as a Father of 3 boys, and seeing friends around me loose their children, or deal with hardships with their kids like this, it makes you think how grateful you are as a parent to have healthy kids. It also makes you scared that things can change in an instance. A very scary thought indeed. Landon has the support of Gamecock nation and many others, and has Ray Tanner and Chad Holbrook who have gone through there own difficulties with their kids to always look to.

There is absolutely nothing worse in life than having to bury your child. I have had 2 friends that each lost a child in the last couple of years. I sorry, I just can't read it.....but my heart goes out to them.

I watched it last night, really pulling for Landon. Didn't know he was on a team with Hamilton during youth ball.
Did anybody see the segment on blind baseball? Looked like fun.

Saw him at-bat against Dontrelle Willis in Detroit (I'm thinking) on a business trip in 2010. I was the only one in the entire stadium screaming a rooster crow. Which in Detroit was unusual to say the least
He is my favorite Gamecock baseball player. We won't ever get another catcher like that, ever. And a good man and example to us all. |
