Plus a 15 yard penalty.
Now, I am all for player safety. However, this past season proved that the referees are not able to accurately call this penalty correctly. We are going to rely on this same judgment for the ejection of a player from a game? Totally the wrong way to handle it.

The refs are able to use instant replay to review the ejection.
It is still a stupid rule, but at least they put the review in it.

I don't think I can trust then even with the review.

Instant replay will not increase the accuracy. This rule needs a solid line that the refs have to go by when making a decision. The problem with this rule is every ref has a different view of what's above the shoulders, leading with the helmet, what constitutes a defenseless player, ect. While they have guidelines about those situations, there is still to much room for personal perception of what happened.

I don't think it's fair that they don't take into account that the defender might be a lot taller than "defenseless" offensive player, like Clowney and Vincent Smith (albeit not a defenseless player in that case.)

I still can't believe the hit on Cunningham in the Vandy game, yet that guy wasn't ejected.
But DJ's hit caused him to be ejected. Maybe the instant replay on this will be a good thing. We'll see.

The game we love is slowly fading away.
Only on the most egregious plays should ejections occur Seriously, c'mon man.

The rule and the penalty are both stupid.

the top of Clowney's helmet hit Smith's facemask. That helmet does fly off otherwise. The reason why it's not a penalty is because he is not a defenseless player, he is a ball-carrier.

Swearinger was not ejected, he was suspended for the next game after fulll review, which would be a better policy for the NCAA to implement.

No way. He just got drilled. I just re-watched it in slow motion from 3 different angles.
Now, unless you take the slant that when Smith go drilled, his chest caved in and caused his helmet to bend down and hit on top of Clowney's then, physically speaking, I can buy that. What I meant was the Clowney, in no way, initiated that hit with his helmet. That was a text book pop and wrap tackle |

If a guy leads with his helmet, yes, he should be ejected but I have no problem with them not being allowed a substitute for the ejected player. Dangerous play and all

The helmet flew like ten yards, use some common sense. That helmet can not do that just by hitting the player. You can't literally knock someone out of their socks. It's been disproven by mythbusters.

Not being allowed substitute for the ejected player? What does that mean 10 on 11 football like in soccer? I hope not, because that would really stupid.

Treating an ejection in football like a red card in soccer. Interesting.
