Default Anybody up for a trip to Utah?

I've got an urge to whip somebody's ass.

Quote:
Dozens of children at a Utah elementary school had their lunch trays snatched away from them before they could take a bite this week.
Salt Lake City School District officials say the trays were taken away at Uintah Elementary School Tuesday because some students had negative balances in the accounts used to pay for lunches.

There are better ways to handle that situation. Snatching it away from a young'un ain't right

Idiots....they should have given the parents a little bit more of a notice then less than a day. Now I could see if the parents had been notified multiple times and still refused to pay their past due amounts.

Agreed.

You'd be surprised at the amount of unpaid meal balances. It is staggering in some districts. I am all for free and reduced lunches though. Kids have to eat and have nutrition in order for them to be able to concentrate in school. There are forms to be filled out for these reduced prices.

This will probably end up in the Political Forum, but I think its wrong to take food from any child. The fact they were going to throw it away anyway, makes this even worse. Just let them eat.

Ya know I doubt all of those parents are blameless in this thing, and maybe some of them had ridiculous past due balances, but none of those children needed to be treated like that. And considering the fact that the lunches were thrown in the trash, the school had absolutely zero to lose by allowing the children to eat.

Spot on. Sometimes, meals at school are what the kids get to eat...period

Yeah throwing in the trash was idiotic. They did feed them though something else...but still.

Like 2000 said....unpaid lunch balances are not uncommon and can cripple some smaller school districts. Catch-22 since it affects the kids and not the parents.

Giving the students fruit and milk is something, but these kids need something that is a little more stick to their ribs. They could have very easily fixed them sandwiches or something like that ahead of time.

They incurred even more of a loss because they gave them milk and fruit so what was the point? To humiliated those children like that is beyond unethical, it's abuse. Dare I say an evil act. Take it out on the parents, leave the children out of it.

I think this happened before somewhere else and the school gave the kids bologna sandwiches and milk. And their parents got pissed.

I will drive. Y'all provide the gas and snacks to get there. I reserve the right to throw the first punch. I will decide on the way if it will be directed towards the Principal or the person in charge of the lunch room.

Freaking take the food away and then throw it away in front of them. That is cruel and I consider it to be abusive.

The district I'm in has a policy that once the balance is -$12.00 they get a cheese sandwich, piece of fruit and milk. That's basically 2 weeks of lunch before the "punishment". They also send out an email when your balance is at $5. You get a phone call if it get into negative. Plenty of warnings and time, not 1 day.

Not to be even remotely insensitive to what happened, but something just seems off about this. I am fairly certain that kids who can't pay qualify for free or reduced lunch (a Fed program). One would think that if a family is having a hard time paying, they would be signed up for that. If not, one would think that this was just a case of a parent missing payment and that wouldn't be a repeated thing warranting this type of response.

If it happened, the school is definitely in the wrong. It just seems odd to me.

Usually with this type of story, you never get the whole truth from either side. The schools get painted as evil and the parents get painted as saints or vice versa depending on the story. Most often it is the former.

It almost seems like one of those stories that the news gets wrong, but they never go back and fix it. Like that kid who kissed his teacher but the news reported it as an innocent kid who was just hugging his teacher. Yeah, they never went back and told the truth on that with the same vigor that they used when they had it wrong.

I love the hard hitting investigative reporting done by consulting the school's Facebook page.

This to a T. I also think it was just taken in the lunch line. I thought it was the kids about to eat, and then the food getting taken away in the cafeteria. It's just a few people see type of situation no biggie. Y'all can go beat the crap out of the school employee's. I'm going to each of these kids homes, and knocking the crap out of their dads about not paying their kids lunch, or at least trying to get reduced/free lunch. This is like blaming a grocery store not giving someone some food because they are short on money. I need a woman with me so she can hit the mothers though.

Not to mention you know how much the fing bill is, pay the dang thing. Are people so stupid now they need someone to keep reminding them when their kids lunch bill is behind? Irresponsible and idiotic.

I'll go! This is one of the worst things I've ever heard of. What person with a soul could take a tray of food away from a child. I'm in the school system and I know that for some kids that's the only food they get all day. Shame on all involved!
