Cool Home winning streak.

Could bragging about our home winning streak haunt us? I'm not sure how much I like the idea of advertising that we have the longest home winning streak. Every team that comes to Willy B this year will have an extra chip on their shoulder wanting to end it.

The home win streak will end at some point. It's inevitable. All streaks
end. We will not go undefeated at home through eternity. We will at
some point lose a game to Clemson in the rival again. Impossible to win
every game from now on.

Sitting around worrying about when and how is not the mark of a true
worrier or supporter. Whether it comes in the first game of the season,
the 3rd, or the last of this season or next season at some point or
WHENEVER. It's a record now and we run with it until it ends.

Warriors don't sit around worrying and wondering when they'll lose again
or if it's best not to talk about it for fear of giving the opposition an
advantage. .. You prepare for battle then you give it 100% and whatever
happens....happens.

I like a man of logic. It's not sacrilege to suggest we may eventually actually lose a game or that a streak will end. It's great to see one of the leaders of this site is able to speak his mind, and that this is a site whereby one does not have to pretend his team is invincible or be chastised for it.

All true fans know that we have a great program here and that many of us have suffered the pangs of mediocrity in previous years to arrive at the place we now find ourselves. Winning streaks are meant to be expounded upon and enjoyed, the main reason being that they will end one day.

So give it your best shot, A&M. But you had better bring your A game, or you will end up as the 19th straight victim in Williams-Brice Stadium!

If this program is ever going to get to the level of Alabama, LSU, Georgia,
Auburn etc... THIS RIGHT HERE is how we have to approach every single
game. Instead of worrying if we're giving the other team a boost to come
in and beat us, you allow your accomplishments to be known, You Advertise
them so they'll know it. Instead of worrying if the other team is going to
come in to our house with a chip on there shoulder, you invite them to
bring their best game, and then you go out on the field and BEAT their
best game. Do that enough times, and when you advertise a record, or
accomplishment, you don't worry about whether or not it's giving the
other team an advantage..... you advertise it to intimidate them. You
advertise it as a WARNING !

I agree we should be boasting our extreme advantage when playing in Williams-Brice. Yes, it will give opposing teams an extra chip on their shoulder coming into the game, but sometimes Spurrier does that anyways with his legendary zingers.

But it's also the type of thing that can be worth a few extra points in close games, once we hit the opposing teams in the mouth and our crowd gets into it. It becomes a mental obstacle for our opponents. And, it may even help us on 50/50 calls with the refs. Perception becomes reality. And once we defeat our opponent, they know they can wait on Spurrier's next verbal roundhouse.

Just be loud when they have they ball and quiet when we have it. And wear Garnet on Gameday dammit. And if you can sneak me an extra mini bottle in the game, I sit on the West Side so hit me up.

I think the mindset in the OP is understandable for this time of year. I think
we're all sitting on the edge of our seats waiting for the season to start.
a month ago, it wasn't as bad because we realized it was still several weeks
away. Another week from now we as fans will start getting into "Game
Mode" realizing it is only days away now instead of weeks. ..... BUT EVERY
YEAR, 10-14 days from kickoff is that area where we're wanting it to get
here, and realize it's still just beyond our "comfort zone". We start thinking
all kinds of things and "what ifs" and "are we ready" kind of ideas pop in
our heads. Most of it comes from what we see or hear in the media. Mainly
we hear them reporting on all these other team's improvements and about
all our opponent's standout players and their top recruit's making a big
splash for them in practice. A lot of times those reports are accompanied
by video highlights of those players making good plays in practice or their
spring game. We get edgy thinking about having to play them, and we
start thinking ....Hmmm, maybe these guys aren't going to be the pushovers
we pictured them being three, four five weeks or so ago. That's because
the media weren't preparing for the start of the season and having to
cover all these teams back then. NOW, two weeks or less before the
start of the season and we have time to see those reports and start
wondering and worrying.
I came to realize this a few years ago, and it has curbed my "two week
dead zone" worries. ... These are simply highlights of our opponents
team and certain players. They have to pick those out to show the best
of each team while they are reporting on the improvement of them the
year before. They are hand picked plays out of MANY. Every team has
them in their practice and last year's footage. MAINLY....While we are
watching and sometimes worrying about the improvements of our opponents,
Our opponent's fans are watching and worrying about our clips and highlights
of our improvements and our big play guys (Pharoh, Dylan, Shaq, Mike,
Brandon etc...) and practice footage of our new guys (like Samuel, Harris,
Lammons, BA Williams etc...) They are worrying about us right now, while
we are worrying about them right now.

ALL that matters is when we strap on the helmet and go hit somebody
when it all starts a week from Thursday.

Gotta ride the train while it's running....it may never happen again.

My HS football team had a win streak that we ran up to 24. It was fun and added extra incentive to try and win each week. The coaches used it to get us up.

So this might be more for the Gamecocks than anyone....and it's something they need to be proud up and try and keep going.

IMO-just looking at the home winning-streak on paper is plain impressive.

2011
Kentucky
Florida
The Citadel
Clem5on

2012
East Carolina
UAB
Missouri
Georgia
Tennessee
Arkansas
Wofford

2013
North Carolina
Vanderbilt
Kentucky
Mississippi State
Florida
Coastal Carolina
Clem5on

Just recently found out about the 15 game home win streak from '78-'80 during the Big George-Spencer Clark era...I was too young to remember. That must have been a fun time at W-B...minus the multiple double-digit win seasons.

Nonetheless, I always knew W-B was a unique/awesome home field advantage. Now-it's great to see the football team & fans create a winning environment against all opponents.

Let's keep the streak going, Gamecock Nation!

GO COCKS!!

Yes, the streak will end, but I don't see any issues adding to the hype. Let it become well known, let the players know that we are counting on them to protect the streak. Let opposing teams and their fans know that they are about to step into a mad house.

For every team wanting to end our winning streak, our team wants it to continue. Our players know about the streak and love it. They will do their best to keep it going. We all read the reports. We all listen to the interviews. The players sound humble but confident. We know as fans were getting players with a better mentality. They work hard they play hard with a chip on their shoulders as well. US as fans ride this winning streak with the team as far as they take it and enjoy them making their name with it st Carolina.

Default Re: Home winning streak.

When you have a streak like that at some point it becomes unnerving. You focus more on the streak and less on the game itself. You never want it to be your fault or have it happen on your watch. It motivates some players and people, but it stresses some out to the point they crack.

That being said I would really wait to brag about it until it gets to be pretty big. 18 isn't that much really. Not even in the top 50 all time. Get up to the point where no one on the field knows what it is like to lose at home and then it is much bigger.
