Default Need some parenting advice

Our 5 year old does not want to stay in her bed throughout the night. She just climbs in our bed in the middle of the night.

Any advice on how to dove this problem? We've tried rewards, but it doesn't seem to leave a lasting impression.

Children are subject to both obstructive and REM induced sleep apneas. Most sleep clinics have special programs for kids.

Lock your door. Im sure that it's going to be an uncomfortable transition, but i doubt it's going to get any easier.

At 5 years old i think you can also let them know ahead of time that your door will be locked, and that they should not be surprised.

First, she will grow out of it.
I would try running a fan or some type of noise maker to help her sleep. And maybe leave a TV or DVD running with NO sound so if wakes up there will be something in her room to get her attention away from being alone in the room.

Having your child cuddle up in bed with you is one of the things you will miss soon enough. Enjoy it while it lasts.

We have tried a lot with our daughter. She is getting ready to turn 9 now and has finally grown out of it. But between about age of 6 and 8 it was a continual struggle.

We have tried everything from a a canopy, night light, fan, camping tent in the room, having her switch room to the guest room, you name it. Most things worked for a few weeks or a couple of months. Only to revert back. Also melatonin.

I think in the end she just grew out of it.

I am not sure there is much to be done that would be beneficial to her other than to allow it to continue and she will grow out of it.

Did she sleep with you when she was a baby and/or toddler?

Meaning when she cried when she was little did you guys briing her to bed with you to comfort her so you and her could get some sleep?

I know several people who believed it was easier to get some sleep themselves if they gave in and just brought the baby to bed with them. Never let them 'cry it out' and learn to settle/comfort themseleves as little ones and then had a terrible time ever breaking the cycle. I know of two whose kid slept wth them into first grade...almost every night. Not cool!!

My son...now 17...was a terrible sleeper. Would cry...get out of the crib...bang on the door...screaming at the top of his lungs. We just had to ride it out. I would go get him in the morning and he would be sleeping against the door. We just never caved and by the time he was two it was over with. No issues...well not no issues but the sleeping thing wasn't one of them...there are always issues.

My daughter was simply never a problem. She slept through the night at about eight weeks and rarely had an issue since.

Sure they both slept in the bed from time to time but it was after they both learned to comfort and settle themselves as little ones.

We did the cry it out method with our kids. Worked like a charm when they were babies. My daughter didn't start coming downstairs at night until she was about 6.

Oh another thing - we found cutting out TV helped with the nightmares. Especially cartoons. There is always a bad guy in cartoon. No matter how kid friendly it is.

Television as a whole needs to be eliminated from all children's lives. You might as well just open up a sewer into your living room.

All those movies and programs are designed for one thing only, marketing. It's disgusting. People who show television to their children should have the kids taken to social services. They should be reading the Bible or listening to classical music. Something edifying.

Even Sesame Street had its parts where it seemed a little off. Mister Rogers, that guy was a creep. Some of that stuff is really creepy. I have heard some stories about things in Disney movies, subliminal shit like that. All those people need to be taken to jail.
