it is reported on gamecockcentral also. he doesnt even have a profile on rivals. i'd like to know more about him other than he is 6'-2" 200 lbs.

according to gogamecocks he had 18 sacks last year playing DE for Calhoun County. not too shabby.

He is teammates with Eric Mack..he is a very productive player that has flown under the radar..I think he is definitely going to redshirt and be a player that we coach up..He just received an offer today (I assume he put on a very good showing at our camp)...that is about all I can say about him because I have never heard of him prior to an hour ago.

I read on GCA that Johnson offered Golson after watching him for 20 minutes. I saw his highlights, that kid is a stud!

Gamecocks grab in-state sleeper Brandon Golson

South Carolina picked up its fifth verbal commitment for the 2010 class when linebacker Brandon Golson (Saint Matthews, S.C./ Calhoun County) pledged to the Gamecocks, ESPN's JC Shurburtt reports.

He also had an offer from Wyoming and registered 18 sacks last season as a defensive end.

Golson told ESPN affiliate Web site TheBigSpur.com after competing at South Carolina's camp, "It's close to home and I liked it. I worked out for them and they liked me."

Last year was his first year playing football; he only played in 6 games before being injured in car accident. In those 6 games he got 18 sacks. If Johnson, who coaches Lb's offered him after only watching him for 20 minutes, then I feel real good about this commitment.

Yeah he sounds like he could be a sleeper like Quin Smith was last year..we were able to jump on him early before the bigger schools..and he turned out to be a stud at the Shrine Bowl.

Also, since we are only taking 2 or 3 'backers this year, I think it is impressive that he got the offer and his commitment was accepted..that to me tells me that the coaching staff REALLY likes him.

Now if we can get Justin Parker, Jordan Hicks, or Kendall Moore to pair him with, we will be in business.

Highlights look great and the stats are out of this world. If he plays like that this year then there are going to be a ton of offers coming his way.
