Two kickers join team?

There are many kickers that can kick 60 yarders at the high school level. What changes in college is the height of your wall, the time you have to get one off, and of course the pressure of a big stadium and much more at stake. There are 100 guys coming through this cycle that can say they hit a 57 yarder in a game. How many did it over 6'5" guys and only took two steps? I like that we are getting interest from these kids though. Hopefully they'll take the chance seriously and work hard.

According to the website for the Chris Sailer Kicking School, PK Elliott Fry of Carrollton, TX has accepted an offer as a preferred walk-on at USC. Sailer ranked Fry as the #8 kicker in his class and as a 5-star kicking prospect which equates to a Division One prospect. Here is what Sailer wrote on his site about Fry:

Elliott is simply an oustanding kicker. He has a big time leg and gets great height on his ball off the ground. Kicks well under pressure. One of the most consistent all around performers in the nation. Kickoffs and Field Goals are ready for D1 college football right now. He is also a great punter. His punting is also D1 ready. Turned down D1 offer and will commit to South Carolina as a preferred walk on. Huge pick up for South Carolina.

Fry will join Max Huggins of Myrtle Beach as invited walk-on kickers at USC in the fall.

Um, I think the biggest difference is kicking off the ground in college, vs kicking off the tee in high school, you can see the block in that video.

No, ignorant would be if I had no basis for saying this. The fact that our special teams coach has made glowing remarks about St. Germain, along with the fact that it was only decided the week before our first game that he should redshift instead of doing our kick-offs tells me that the guy is good and has a strong leg. If a coaching staff has the luxury to redshift a kicker, they will. They will have that luxury this year with St. Germain and Ard already having been redshirted.
