Because the only way the could get yards on the ground was to manipulate the numbers in the box to catch them off guard. Perhaps the reason they didn't try it again was because McClendon knew it was a gimmick to light a spark and would get blown up the next time.

So no, I don't see those yards the same way as I wouldn't count a gimmick pass play netting 50 yards out of a 150 yard passing game as evidence that we can throw a football.

Second, our offensive line is above average at pass blocking but below average at run blocking. We also do not block well on the perimeter. That's on the WRs.

And we do it all sometimes, but not consistently.

We run when its obvious. Need to see more screens on early downs to keep the Defense off balance. Can someone just throw in a toss sweep sometime does everything have to go up the middle? I saw a Roper game plan this past Saturday that I know.

So...all the above?

Our RBs lack talent.

Our Offensive line can't run block.

The play calling and blocking schemes suck.

And the coaches don't know how to fix it.

Maybe someone more involved with coaching can answer, but what exactly does a RB coach do other than recruit? Is there anything for Bentley to do to fix the issues..and if there is, and he's not, how long does it get shrugged off?

I don't understand why we don't see more of a balance on carries between Rico and Williams. Williams ypc avg is 5.31 Rico's is 4.37, but the carries per game for Rico 15.2
while Williams is just 9.75. Williams seems to run hard when given the opportunity. I agree that we need to get a true workhorse type of running back. We need to get a bit hit on one of the freshman we just brought in or in the next recruiting cycle.

Bottom line is Williams is bigger, and thus he can power for more yards when the offensive line is playing poorly. But when the offensive line is making holes, it's usually Dowdle who can really break through those holes and get something big out of it.

It's all situational. They're both at about the same skill level, it's just that Williams is bigger, and Dowdle is faster. Makes no sense to act like Williams is the only serviceable back we have because he's been kinda maybe consistent the past two weeks. He's been average because our O-line has played bad. If Rico runs well next week then we're back to "Dowdle is our only good back and Williams can't hit the hole right".
Any kind of equality between the two kind of falls off LATELY when you consider dropped passes and fumbles in critical areas of the field. Hopefully, that's just a fluke.

You can't fix a talent issue except by recruiting better players. If after 5 years of doing this we still are ranked near the bottom in running the ball then the coaches have failed.

We just do not have any SEC caliber RBs. They do not run with authority and go down at the first contact. I can't remember the last time I saw one break a tackle or run through a defender. The oline is doing a good job. We see the RB get to the second level many times and then get stood up. You have to have a RB that can run through some LBs and DBs. We don't have one that can. There is too juking and dancing around giving the defense time to get to the point of contact. We need a RB with vision who can see the hole, plant his foot, and turn upfield and then run through some people.

Now we definitely canít run and Mizzou would have been able to mix up their looks and put Scarnecchia in a position where he would likely not be successful. Muschamp and BMac did an incredible job yesterday putting their backup QB in positions that he could manage. Even when it was frustrating at times. It worked, and now people are complaining about our running game.
From the stands it didn't feel like were getting a lot of 3rd and 5s. It felt more like 3rd and 7+ most of the time. If you're comfortable throwing on 3rd and long into a pass defense you might as well pass on 1st and 10 when they are stacking the box to stop the run. Even if it's only occasionally to keep them honest.

Again, sitting in the end zone it's hard to get perspective on down and distance sometimes, it just felt like we were getting hardly any yards on 1st and 2nd down and then having to pass on 3rd and long.

AJ Turner is not being used correctly. He left the game early, cause of a Concussion. He starts the concussion protocol. How long does that take?
Why not try one or more of the FR RB's in light of the 4 game rule?

This is why I hate statistics. People look to them and then draw conclusions based on a few numbers. But in football, statistics don’t tell the whole story. They don’t account for gameplan. They don’t account for adjustments. They don’t account for anything. All they do is give people something to talk about.

Case in point - Georgia Tech is the “best rushing team in the country.”

It really wasnít. In certain situations late in the game, obviously it may have felt that way. But I thought BMac did a great job of getting our offense into situations on 3rd down where Mizzouís defense had to be honest. Obviously, we didnít always convert, but we converted enough.

in your opinion, who is our best RB? Rico? The guy that keeps fumbling or dropping passes, the guy that continually misses holes, the guy that never runs through tackles? If that's your definition of an SEC caliber RB, then I don't know what to tell you.

I honestly don't know who our best RB is. Coming into the season everyone on here was raving about our "stable" and I thought they were crazy. We have 4 backs that are all pretty good, but they all need a lot of help from the line with big holes to do much.
