Default Phantom flag

Did anyone else see the flag thrown on the first punt that was blocked and recovered by Missouri?

Flag was thrown by an official on the home sideline and you could clearly see it arch through the tv shot (both real time and in the replay). No mention whatsoever by any official or announcer after thrown. There appeared to be a defender lined up in the neutral zone on that punt formation.

Anybody?

Was that the one where our punter took off with ball after he picked it up? If so I think the flag was thrown fir targeting on Mizzou but they picked it up after reviewing it.

I did not see that, but the holding when they had plays to the outside edges in space was ridiculous and not called the entire game. Several times you could see our players have their entire upper body twisted back and they never once called it.

Pretty positive Dylan or Orth got hit with it and I know I saw it in a big abc night game last year and Herbie lost it about the call

I think I've seen that call before against Bentley. If I remember correctly both were flat wrong. Both times our QB was clearly was trying to hit a receiver who either was held up or went the wrong way.

Mizzou coaches were going crazy about every call. Most football coaches do. They lose their stuff over every flag.

14:29 mark of video? Maybe it was an illegal formation?

Being held up is one thing, but going the wrong way is another. If the receiver goes the wrong way and the qb still throws it to the correct spot, then there is no receiver in the area and IS grounding.

I'm pretty sure they called illegal formation on us and it was declined.

Doesn't there have to be intent? It is intentional grounding, not accidental grounding.

Yea this is what had me thinking as well

Quote:
I. Quarterback who is not outside the tackle box, and is attempting to save yardage, intentionally throws a desperation forward pass that falls incomplete where there is no eligible receiver. Ruling: Intentional Grounding. Penalty: Loss of down at the spot of the foul. The clock starts at the snap.

If that's intentional grounding then what about every time a QB throws the ball out the back of the end zone

I think there it's too easily argued that they simply overthrew and it sailed over someone's head.

There is a receiver in the area. It's a judgement call.
