Default Team improvement or bust

What's with all this QB1 vs QB2 talk?

Haven't we seen enough dropped passes from several players....Rico, Deebo, and Bryan have all had several drops at key moments that cost us field position and/or points. Passes that were thrown by both QBs.

Haven't we seen enough fumbles from our RBs? Rico's fumble inside our 10 to start the KY game gave away easy points.

Haven't we seen enough stupid penalties that cost us field position and/or possession? In the 4th against KY, Horn had a 15 yarder AFTER we had just stopped them on 3rd down and they got to keep the ball.

Our team has been sloppy on offense, defense, and special teams. It doesn't matter who our QB is if everything else is off, we're still going to lose games.

And in the end, everyone here wants us to win and doesn't care whether it's with QB1 or QB2, whomever you want to assign 1 and 2 to.

Let's just play better ball all around. If we had done that from the beginning, we'd only have 1 loss at this point.

Go Gamecocks!

Trying to be optimistic, you'd hope that as this young group keeps finding itself in big moments they'll be able to control their emotions in them. We've seen time and again the moment being too big for certain guys and the team as a whole. I'm hoping that its just growing pains. I think we started to turn the corner last week against Misery. However in 2.5 years under CWM our trend has been take a step forward and then take a step back. This weekend we have a chance to take a HUGE step forward. Beat a ranked team at home and beat a team we have yet to beat in the conference. It's a huge oppertunity for our program

There is no one on this team, player nor coach, who is having an outstanding year. This is a team sport. Don't care if you have the best QB in the country, you will struggle if everyone is not doing their jobs. The offense is sputtering as a unit. So is the defense. Until they learn to play and coach as a group we will look mediocre. One person having a good came will not overcome the inconsistency of the rest of the unit.

We just seem very inconsistent all over the place. I don't know what causes that, perhaps a lack of focus. Deebo read too many articles about how great he was or something, so he's been off a little bit. Bryan makes a few great catches, then drops easy ones. Our D looks amazing in stretches of a game, then looks horrible. I don't get it.

Bingo!! That's what I have noticed too. It seems like we cannot sustain the effort for an entire game. It may have to do with lack of quality depth at crucial spots.

Well, Muschamp says it isn't a lack of effort... more a lack of team play and people freelancing. One thing that is really worrying though is the lack of tackling ability at times...

I think the lack of team play points to the lack of a true leader. Who is the leader on offense? On defense I believe it's TJ.

That's the reason I'm so happy to have Marcus on the sidelines. He was certainly a lifting spirit for our entire team when he played. Hopefully he can instill some of that in our team.

And I agree, there wasn't a lack of effort against Mizzou. But what was the motivation? Were they playing harder for the new QB? It happens. That's what the coaches need to figure out and use in the future.

Its just hard to see how this gets any better this season. We kind of what we are right now. We are a team with an above average passing game that can't run the football for what feels like the 10th straight year, that can't stop the run at all, but is pretty good at forcing turnovers and holding teams to field goals in the redzone. Pretty much what we have been the past 1.5 seasons. Getting DJ Wonnum and JT Ibe back after the bye week is going to help the defense but how much? We should beat UT at home, should be UT-Chat, and Marshall to get our 6 wins. We are going to be in a shootout in Oxford where the first team to 40-50 points probably wins, and who knows what Florida is going to be like by the time we play them. They could be playing us for a trip to ATL in The Swamp. Finally there is Clemson in Death Valley.

I just haven't seen much through the Mizzou game that gives me the warm and fuzzy that we are going to hit our stride. IMO, we are kind of capped out as to how good we can be this year.

Very well said

I keep hoping we have met the season's turning point and find our new identity....maybe we can build on last week's game....if we can utilize our offensive playmakers and win the turnover battles this can still be a good season....this is a big game

I don't think you can take too much from Mizzou regarding the offense--defense was bad.

At some point, you're right, it is what it is. The only thing I'm holding out hope for is the bye week.

If, by the grace of God and Jimbo, we can beat TAMU, the team is in about the position I think most people would be okay with. It sucks that a L was to UK, but 4-2 (potentially 5-2 if we'd had Marshall), would be pretty solid.

The coaches can assess who is excelling, who needs to sit, and which bench players need to be worked in more. Maybe it won't be light and day difference, but hopefully it'll be enough to give us a solid push at the end of the season.

The elephant in the room, though, is the ceiling. At some point, you've got to just say this is the best we can do with these players and hope each year the talent and depth start to pay off.

I agree. But go back and look at threads from before the season. Everyone was saying our 4 big time WRs couldn't be stopped and we had talent at RB so we would be flowing on offense.

Well, 1 WR is out due to injury, the other 2 big names continue to underperform, and I think the best of the group is Shi and he doesn't get enough his way.

So is it that everyone here (and media personalities) thought our WRs were better than they are? Or are they not playing to their potential? To me it seems to be #2. So we need to get them there.

I kind of fall in camp 1.

Deebo is really good, but he benefited from the hype with his performance before his injury. He had 3 really good games and people had him as a Heisman candidate (or fans did). Edwards is another really good receiver, but maybe it's the same gig. How many times did the number 2 WR for Clemson, UGA, Bama or what have you had games where you cringed if it's a third and long going to him?

And don't get me started on RBs.

Honestly, I think we all bit too hard on the record last year, didn't look enough at the substance, and were wowed by a comeback against a Michigan team that rolled over.

I was never overly impressed with our RBs, but I did believe our WRs were going to shine.

I wasn't convinced last year, because if we had 3 plays go another way, we'd have lost 3 more games. We scraped by luckily several times.

Michigan gave me some belief, just because it was a new system in place and a big win for us. But yea, it says more about their poor performance than our good performance.
