But for those oozing with excitement knock yourselves out. I'd prefer to look realistically at what we've done: start a(nother) rebuilding year 2-0 against 2 teams just above Akron caliber, who were supposed to have beat us.
So you look "realistically" at a victory over a decent ACC team and a road SEC-opening win over a mediocre team as being a 2? What would you have said had we lost those games? For the record, I would say a 6 because we did win and I (like many) think that we are headed in the right direction, but there are still clearly things to improve on significantly. If Jake can get himself together, we could be a decent team this year.

Just how much rebuilding do you think gets done if this team starts the year 0-2? I'll answer for you...very little or none. Winning as many games as possible is the one & only way Muschamp is going to recruit his way to a truly competitive roster. If he can get to 8 wins, now he's got something to sell. Anything less 7 & he's likely treading water & not truly rebuilding.

That's where my excitement lies, not in suddenly believing this team is elite. We have very little margin for error, so far things have gone our way & that's what has to happen to move the program forward.

We went toe-to-toe with a very good defense (one of the best in the nation according to some) and went down 2 scores early to a conference opponent on the road. To be 2-0 and on top of the East at the moment is worth some optimism, though I'd still remain cautious. Questions remain on both sides of the ball but for now, savor the flavor of our current position.

We owe the kitties from Big Blue Nation some much needed vengeance, big time. Get that done and our outcome becomes a little clearer.

On a scale of 1-10? 7. With a win, push it up about a half-point. Now should they TCOB against the Ags and Arky - I'm going to give that a solid 9 (coupled with a likely win over LATech, that's a 6-0 record; 4-0 in conference). Get that good of a start and the possibilities are more wide open than a Deebo kick return TD.

This is foolishness. We beat two decent P5 teams away from home. NCSU and Missouri look nothing like MAC teams at any position. Who gives a damn what the casinos are up to? They're only trying to balance the money.

I think I'll go with a 6. I can see improvement and potential, but we aren't quite "there" yet. I think there will be some disappointment this year, but we seem to be trending upward.
As long as I stay away from CT during games I can stay positive.

The only thing that would excite him is if Muschamp were fired. He won't allow himself to be happy for the program as long as Muschamp is the head coach.

I've always thought a team needed to play 3 games to really get a good gauge on how good or bad they were so I'm trying to reserve judgement on where we're at as a program. Having said that, I am pretty excited about our future. The team I saw out there in the 2nd half against Missouri on Saturday is capable of playing with just about anybody in the country and when you couple that with the fact that there are no teams on our schedule (including Clemson) that are absolute losses, I like the way our season is taking shape to this point. We need to stay healthy (especially JBentley), continue to improve and do the things we've done so far- win the turnover battle, win 3rd down on both sides of the ball, keep penalties to a minimum, convert red-zone opportunities and play sound, fundamental football. I think the future is bright and I am cautiously optimistic. Give me a 7 on the scale. GOCOCKS!!!!

Who compared NCSU and Mizzou to AKRON??? Akron wouldn't beat some of the FCS schools in South Carolina. NCSU is a talented top 25-30 roster. Missouris defense is bad but Drew Lock was supposedly the best QB in the SEC according to the media and NFL drafts show they have players.

My goodness. What Debbie Downers! We're off to a great start with two nice quality wins.

Dont forget to root for Louisville this weekend. If we keep up what we're doing and Clemson slips up some....a few high profile recruits who have committed to them over us might just have second thoughts

No worries there. As a Gamecock, it is my duty to root for Clemsux to lose every game. They will have their hands full with that Louisville QB. He's the real deal.

We could easily start 4-0 and finish 6-6.

My excitement is tempered a bit be cause we have a long way to go and I still see some very large gaps on our team.

That being said I will say I'm 7 on the excitement scale because we now have the possibility of going to a bowl better than Birmingham, and the rest of our schedule is full of teams that (beside Clemson) have a lot of unanswered questions.

^^Great point!

We have the best "perceived" programs ahead of us after the La Tech game, plus trying to get our first W over the UK since the Clowney days.

Still hoping for an 8-4 season...which would be a major step forward Boom and staff.

We have 3 road games to go...I'd be happy with 1 win.

I'm at a 5 excitement wise. We go 4-0, and I'll bump that up to a 7.

Lotta football to be played.

GO COCKS!!

My excitement level is always like 9 when football season finally rolls around. My team is playing good and started 2-0, so I guess it's still around a 9. And I really like this team, I like how they play and like watching the younger guys grow up. Fun season so far.

I get what you're saying, but NC State is a pretty decent team. They'll win some games in the ACC and make that W for us look better. Mizzou is a hot mess. They should've fired the d-coordinator last year; maybe there was a money issue or something?

A few things that's keeping me from getting too giddy. Both these games we lost the stat battle and won on special teams and turnovers. That's awesome and can't take away the importance of that, and the question of what-if Deebo didn't run the ball back both games or what-if we didn't have a fumble or INT in the redzone pretty much remains.

Here's what has me hopeful: The defensive line looks average and when we bring BAW or another LB we're getting sacks. The secondary isn't bad either. Mizzou's strength and our weaknesses lined up and we came out on top.

Here's what's holding me back: We still haven't found a rushing attack. I know it's early, but we're 108th nationally in rushing offense. 92nd in passing. And I know those stats don't mean a whole lot since we've played 2 power 5 teams and most other teams have had at least one give-me game, but the eyeball test is we still can't run the ball.

All that being said, the east still sucks hard. If we can beat UK and still look good against Louisiana-Lafayette, we've got 2 SEC wins and 2 more wins to bowl games. I have a feeling the winner of the east will probably be a two-loss conference team. Meaning, if we can win UK and Vandy and split UGA, UT, Florida, and TAMU, we've got a chance to be competitive. Florida looks winnable at home. UT will get curb stomped by Alabama and LSU pretty much taking them out of the picture with one loss in the east. UGA has a legit shot.

Anyway, my excitement is a 4-5.

TBF, the KO returns might be hurting our offensive stats. Let's suppose that we get touch backs on those KO's and then drive down the field and score.

What do our offensive stats look like when you add an extra 75 yards per game?

Yeah, I know. That and the short fields we've been working with. But there are chunks in both games that we seem to be unable to run the ball efficiently.

I'm going to hold back from judging until I see the UK game. We will need to be more balanced and run effectively to win that one.

Gotta' say it dipped a little when I saw that Marshall was leading State. But they ended up holding them to 27 or something like that........

But I'm trending positive. Young guys look good. Jake has been a little inaccurate and but have lots of weapons on offense. Run game still concerns me. Roper is clearly a pretty damn good offensive coordinator at this point. Like zero doubt because he's been working around zero run game (admittedly with nasty weapons but still if you can't call a run and know you will get 3 yards, it makes life tougher).

I think they guys in the back end can cover better, because they did last season. Think allowing some dink and dunk was game plan against these two offenses. Jam Williams pick was sweet. Honey badger would have housed that thing though.

A-A-Ron Sterling launches off the line like he's shot out a cannon and the OL just kind of implodes backwards where he is lined up. Dunno if either of these OLs we played were worth a crap though.
