If you want a dog to love you nothing beats a beagle. If its a pure bred check for notches behind he ears.

My family currently has 4 dogs, and I have a 5th living with me and my roommates. At home I have a dachshund, golden retriever, carrin terrier (a Toto dog), and a husky. My roommates and I have a lab that was a stray.
Far and away my favorite is the dachshund. It's the only kind of dog I want when I'm older. I love the golden too. The husky is great, but blows her coat twice a year and gets puff balls everywhere. (She's also really dumb) The carrin terrier is a little yappy and her coat gets mangy very quickly. I'm not a fan of the lab because he continually chews up things in the house even though he's no longer a puppy. I suspect my roommate just didn't do a great job training him though. But like I said the dachshund is my favorite. I love herrrrr

My wife turned me onto Weimaraner's and I love the breed man! The great thing about this breed is they are so easy to train. They are naturally a bird dog so they listen very well and do not run off to much if you take the time to train them. My dog Daisy she came from a farm in Kansas and both her parents were Pheasant Hunters and it shows in her training. We can let her off the leash just about any time and not worry about her running off and we can leave the front door wide open and she won't run out. She is super wonderful with my daughter who is 15 months old and very gentle and she is a super love bug.
The best thing by far about this bread is the shedding man. Weim's have very short hair and the only time you will get dog hair on you is if you hug or play with them alot. Otherwise there is no vacuuming up a lot of dog hair or needing to lint roll every outfit you wear. One thing your better half might love about the breed is how cute they are when they are young. Weim's have a very very strong blue color in their eyes when they are puppies to go along with their velvety soft floppy ears and are so cute! Their eye color does change when they get older but but the ears stay the same. Give a Weimaraner a look I never had one before Daisy but our next dog will be another Wiem.

I have a 17 week old half golden retriever - half pitbull. He is 30.5 pounds as of a couple days ago, so he is going to be a big guy.
Incredibly loyal and smart dog. Seems to love water. Very sneaky. He and our cat like to mess with each other. It is sad that there is such a general negativity towards pitbulls, because our little guy is great. We were able to see his parents when picking the pup up, and the mother is this incredible looking blue pitbull who was insanely nice when we saw her.

I love my Chihuahuas, have had them for over 20 years (one at a time). Very consistent in behavior & temperament. I will post a pic in Ktguens thread of what she looks like.

Not alot of people know about Weimaraners its kinda one of those breeds that are not mainstream. But honestly its like a lab and a pointer mixed together and honestly one of the best dogs I have had and I have had or lived with someone who has had Labs, Pointers, Golden Retrievers, Paums, Chihuahuas, German Shepherds, Huskies, Min Pins, Newfies, and Boarder Collies.......I love my Weim because not many people have one but to be honest most dogs are only as good as their owners.......If you put the time and effort in to train them and love them they will be good dogs 90% of the time. Sometimes you get a bad dog its just in their bloodline.

We've had three dachsunds (two currently). They're the best. Gotta' put away some money in the doxie health fund though, just in case. And carry them up and down stairs and try to limit the flying off the top ropes, to save those backs. If you have an issue, I recommend NC State. Will save you thousands over a private specialist in SC and will be the best in the field. They're damn smart but can be a little strong-willed. Ours would be insulted beyond belief if they didn't get to share the bed and get under the covers, although I've heard of some mini-weinies that prefer their own bed. All of ours are standard. I want one of the gray ones. Isabella or something they're called. Our favorite vet was the guy in Columbia over there near Shandon off milwood, but he's a clemson fan. Not obnoxious though. I kind of want to get a Great Dane or another larger breed (relative to dachshunds), but I don't relish the thought of cleaning up accidents when its being housetrained. Also, not sure I can tolerate drool. Boxers are great looking but too high energy for us. I like Doberman's as well, but again with the exercise. Still, I am considering geting two Dobermans, naming them after greek gods, growing a mustache and wearing canvass fatigues all day like Higgins. Just saying.
