Playing it now...pretty deep into Act 1. Loving it. Got tired of waiting for Skyrim on PS3, so playing it on my wife's XBox. Combat is super.

No, not open world aka Skyrim, but within the mapped locations, you have a lot of room to explore -- think more like Dragon Age 2.

Playing on anything other than dark mode allows you to basically hack a slash through the entire game. You'll miss out on a lot of content if you don't utilize some of the abilities Gerald has. Plus you get some badass armor plans in dark mode. You might die a lot early on, but once you get the armor and get better at combat, it'll be a breeze.
