After listening to the game last night, I realized we have scored 80+ points in all 3 games... Well, I checked how many times we scored 80 or more points last year...
Answer: We NEVER scored 80 points in a game last year.... (We scored 79 vs SC State) Pretty good, considering we lost Malik Cooke, 2 of our better scorers transferred, and our starting point guard is playing football right now.

Yeah it's refreshing to see a good coach come in with a lot if the same pieces and just make them better.

We are currently 4th in the country in free throw percentage at 81.7% and 31st in FTM as we average 19.3 ppg from free throws. In 2011-12 we were 335th in FTM per game with 10.4 PPG (9th from the bottom). Our free throw percentage last season was a respectable 70.1% - tied for 134th.

Well, when our offense was based upon passing the ball around the perimeter for 28-30 seconds, then throwing up a brick from 20-23 feet 85% of the time, I guess it was hard to score a bunch and get to the foul line.. There is so many things I see from this team that I like so much more than last year... Kinda makes me think what it would have been like if Frank had taken over right after Odom left...

It's funny how well some of our "bad shooters" can shoot when the offense actually works to get them good shots.

Coach Martin gets people to trust his basketball knowledge and plan by first establishing that all he wants is your best effort, wins come second. I think these players believe. They don't worry about missing shots. They have no worries. No one expects them to win. All they owe is honest effort and open eyes and ears.

I'm with cockhornleghorn on this one. I'm not sure we had a basis for the offense. Too many times we let guys go straight down court and jack up off balance contested jumpers(many times 3 pointers) and then nobody went to the bench, nobody got chewed out, hell the player missing the shot didn't even look disappointed. ACCOUNTABILITY. The difference is night and day.
Sometimes I wonder if Horn was trying to get fired so he could make off with all that guaranteed cash kinda like Tommy Bowden at clemPson after he used Arkansas for his big raise.

To be fair to Horn, he did pull players when they took bad shots, but definitely not to the degree Frank does. Probably because he just couldn't get all the players players to stop taking dumb shots, and you could tell nobody believed in the offense. It was a bunch of "my turn" basketball.
If you're not doing any of these things: -Moving the ball -Taking smart shots within the offense -Rotating -Playing hard Frank will chew you out and you'll be on the bench. He's trying to get these guys to play legitimate basketball and not pick-up.

Pick-up ball only works in college if you buy NBA talent every season.
