Blake had plenty of talent. He just made bad decisions. There wasn't a ball he couldn't throw but his mechanics and footwork were not the best and this was intensified by a poor offensive line. Give me your list of Gamecock QB's with a better combination of arm strength and accuracy. It's a pretty short list.

I loved watching him play, but I think in order to be elite you need to have either been an All American or been a Pro Bowl NFL player. Brewer I don't think even made an All SEC list in his career. Big time fan favorite that played with heart, but I don't think Brewer is elite. |

Love Duce as much as the next guy, but he sucked in the NFL.

Ellis, Tanneyhill, Petty, Garcia, Thompson, Shaw, Fuller and Wright. That said, Mitchell pretty much single-handedly won the Liberty Bowl for us. I was at that game and it was fairly impressive. Not saying he was a bad player by any means, just not one of the best we've ever had. |

I think sucked may be a bit strong for someone with 3 1000+ years and 10k all purpose yards in the NFL.

Blake had more arm talent than Shaw, but Shaw makes better decisions, makes better decisions, makes better decisions, and wins games on willpower alone. I don't think we would have won as many games if Blake had been the QB. Shaw doesn't blow you away with his physical attributes, but he's a better QB than Mitchell. Phil Petty was like Shaw, except slow, but he was a winner also. I would take both of those guys over Blake.

No he didn't. The man had 3 seasons where he rushed for over 1,000 yards. He also was one of the best pass catching RBs in the NFL for much of his career.
In 04 he had a very good season with the Steelers. Staley would run the ball until the Steelers got in the redzone, then they would give it to Bettis to score all the TDs. He wasn't a NFL legend, but he was highly respected and ran for nearly 6,000 yards. |

Duce had about 1,400 yards less than Big George did and about 1,400 yards more than Harold Green did. Unless I'm forgetting someone, Duce had without a doubt the 2nd best NFL career by a Gamecock RB

Petty had a much better head but not more God given talent by any stretch. If Petty had Blake's arm strength and accuracy he would have also had a Heisman. Anthony may have matched his arm strength but not accuracy. Thompson, really? Steve didn't have the arm strength Blake did, but did deliver a duck as accurately as anyone I ever saw. I think Bobby Fuller is probably the most underrated passer we ever had, but again did not have quite the arm strength or accuracy Mitchell did. Garcia, I did mention accuracy, also I only remember 2 games where his trajectory was good on long balls. He always either put too much or not enough air under them. Ellis had the arm, but suffered from Frank Sadler and the space between his ears. He could make just about any throw, but the problem was he always tried to make the ones he could hit 1 out of 5 times. What separated Petty, Tanneyhill and Shaw was the fact that they know when to not risk the throw. I don't think Thompson is there yet. There were 3 balls in the Clemson games that should have been picked.

The only way this post makes sense is if you are:
A. Stirring the pot. B. Huffing glue. Or C. Don't understand the meaning of the word, "sucks"

He ran for close to 6,000 yards in NINE seasons. It's just a shame that his NFL career was so injury-ridden. Maybe "sucked" is the wrong word. Sorry to offend.

Again, the 04 season saw Bettis rack up all the TDs after Staley did all the work running the ball. It was actually sad to see Staley get the Steelers inside of the 10 and then Bettis would come in and get the TD gifts. |
