South Carolina has been recruiting in the top 25 since Spurrier arrived and like I said there's not much difference in a 15th ranked class and a 20th ranked class. Yes Clemson has had a higher ranked class what 7 of the past 9 years but its been a 10-15th ranked class vs a 15-20th ranked class for Scar.

The difference is these teams like Alabama who pull in top 10 classes year in and year out and build that depth to where 4 stars are backing up other 4 stars or 5 stars at just about every position, especially on the lines.

Yes, we should thank Skeeter for the amazing insight that having better players makes you more likely to win. I am just glad he chose to share that treasured secret with us here instead of a pay site.

Alabama? Back to back championships.
Florida? Two titles in three years.
LSU? Two national titles in five years.

Common denominator? All ranked in the top 5 of "recruiting services" every single year.

Say what you want about analysts, services, rankings etc....those three teams have MULTIPLE national titles and are always ranked as having a top class every year. You can brag about how coaches "coach up players" and get players that "fit the system" but the fact remains that we have yet to go to a BCS Bowl game.

Someone PLEASE put this troll in the smack talk forum and keep him there......he has NEVER contributed to any threads except to deride and put down our discussions about our college athletics. I have been clueless as to why he's been allowed to carry on as long as he has all these years, with the total lack of relevant contribution he has provided to this site.....

And they have the coaches to develop the players. A 5* player without a coach to develop him is well, Dequan Bowers.

You mean the All-American that led the nation in sacks and won the award for best defensive player in the country his senior season? Yea we did a terrible job developing him.

Exactly! You can say that about the 15-25 ranked classes but the top dog programs are in the top 5 or top 8 every year and those are the teams with the crystal balls

It's all about player development. The teams that STAY at the top have the coaches that can develope talent the best. Over time, and winning, you're able to start bringing in better talent. If you can get better talent AND develope it even more ... you have studs.

Clemson, even with Bowden, has always had GREAT recruiting coaches, but they haven't had great position coaches that can build that talent up.

If recruiting indicated on the field success, Alabama would be winning national titles and Kentucky would be a bottom feeder in the SEC

The SEC is a standard of its own. You can't apply generalities from other schools like clemsux, to the SEC. The SEC gets the best players AND have the best coaches.

If you start with the best players you have a distinct advantage in the SEC, because there is not a great disparity in coaching. Spurrier, Saban, Miles, Muschamp, Richt, all very good coaches. It is my belief that you can not consistently finish 5th in the SEC in recruiting and win the SEC. Exceptions happen, but not forever.

Everyone likes to use fit as an excuse for us not getting a player, then why did we offer him? It is not like we are turning down 5* players because they don't fit. We missed on several players this year, lets just say it and stop making excuses.

Not always...Check the history of ND, SoCal, OSU, Texas and a few others....Coaching is the key....If you have a top 25 class, trust that your coaches can evaluate and develop
