For all those who think Spurrier's offense is out date. Think again! My apologies to Whammy. I thought he couldn't adjust but he did. Great coaching on both sides, all around well coached game.

If not for some of those BS ref calls, we'd have scored at least 35, maybe 40. The refs cost us a lot of first downs. But guess what? 27 was enough.

One thing that has frustrated me for so long has been the inconsistencies on offense, from just about everyone who has played under Spurrier: Shaw has shown that he too can throw a pretty football game from time to time as well, as he has now had several 300+ yd games. He can also be very accurate, and has a high TD:INT ratio. But some times that I can't explain Shaw disappears a bit at throwing the FB. Also our OL has also been inconsistent, at times blocking effectively and others becoming pretty porous.

Clemson's passing defense was one of the worse that we will face this season. They are down around Arkansas', Tennessee's, ECU's and UAB's pass Ds. We averaged passing for 340 yards versus those teams, and scored an average of 43+ pts against them. The big differences here are 1) we faced all those other opponents in the friendly confines of Williams-Brice while we played Clemson in Memorial Stadium, and 2) Clemson are our very hated in-state rivals, while those others opponents are not. So, Dylan's performance was still note-worthy, but I still feel that a healthy Connor Shaw should have been able to perform effectively against the Tigers as well. Whether or not he would've actually done it, I can't say.....

We passed the ball around all day long until the fourth Quarter when we started to just run the clock out with the run game. This is what spurrier wants. I have had a bad taste in my mouth with connor this year because he want throw the ball. He will get pressure and run. Very rarely does he step up in the pocket and throw. This is what DT does, he is a pocket passer , who last night showed us he can run to. I think that its great to have two QB's that can play, but i dont see spurrier leaving connor in for very long if he starts to stink it up. His leash got shortened even more last night.
Hostile enviroment coupled with a rivalry DT produced and would like to see him in a bowl game throw it around as well.
Clemson played NC State in Clemson, not Raleigh. But don't misunderstand me, I would like to see Shaw heave the ball too. He doesn't have the arm Thompson does, but he should at least be given the chance. If he's not going to get a fair chance to play the QB position completely, then he shouldn't be playing QB. It's not all Spurier's fault. I realize Shaw often holds the ball WAY too long, and takes off running too soon, but Spurrier's playcalling is too different depending on who is in at QB. Anyway, with Clemson's efense being what it is (or isn't) and with the "passing" QB in, shouldn't that have equaled putting up more yards and points?

Shaw and Thompson are just different types of QBs. One is a spread QB and the other is a pro-style QB. I don't know if one is much better than the other. Both are effective at what they do when healthy. Though if a couple of Thompson's passes that were very close to being intercepted were picked off, this would be a very different conversation.

I think you and I have discussed (and agreed on) this before, but that's what is frustrating about Spurrier's playcalling when Shaw is in at QB. He just calls the game differently. Because of the incredible difference in playcalling depending on which QB is in, we REALLY need to find a true dual threat QB.

It's pretty obvious at this point that Shaw is the "running" QB and Thompson is the "passing" QB, and that both can do a little of the other, but I think Spurrier needs to be consistent with his playcalling.
I found Whammy's and DJ's comments about Taj after the game interesting. They both said that they saw on film that Taj has a tendency to look at his first read, and if it is not there, he runs. Whammy used his safeties to shut down Potkins and Laroosh. Then Taj would take off and we had a spy on the DL waiting on his scramble attempts.

Makes me wonder if the SEC DCs have done the same to Connor. Also makes me understand why Spurrier gets aggitated when Connor does not go through his read progressions. That is Connor's biggest inconsistency. He did go through his reads in a couple of the games, but the games on the road this year, not so much. I wonder if that, along with the injury, was a factor in the decision to play DT.

I'm going to disagree about Shaw's arm. Spurrier has said it several times that Shaw throws a nice deep ball. He can fire it to the sidelines also. IMO, his biggest issue is the tendency to abort his read progression and rely on his above-averge ability to run the ball. BTW, Shaw's running is not a bad thing. The dude can fly and makes people miss in the open field. He is a weapon with his legs and that opens up defenses on the back side.

Sure they have. They've also done a better job of confusing the zone blocking schemes so our guys miss their assignments and someone comes in free.
The zone-read was open most of the night if we had chosen to run it...the few times we did, Dylan smoked them.
But no complaints from me...great win!

I realize I didn't make it clear in my post, but I was only talking about the strength of his throwing arm. But I think Shaw throws a very "pretty", catchable ball at times. I would just like to see him throw it more often, and I don't know if the lower number of throws from Shaw vs Thompson is just because of playcalling or if it's because of Shaw's decisions.
