Minor Conferences Get Bowl Guarantee

So it looks like the new bowl format will be pretty similar to the current one, except there will be a 4 Team Playoff to determine the national champ.

The new college football postseason system will have six games as originally planned, but now a spot in the marquee bowls will be reserved for the best team from a group of five conferences that includes the Big East.

Basically to sum this up. The highest ranked team from the Big East, MAC, C-USA, MWC or Sun Belt will gain an Auto Bid to a BCS bowl.

So outside of the 4 teams I guess this is what Bowl Season will look like.

Rose- Pac-12 vs Big 10
Sugar- SEC vs Big 12
Orange- Acc vs Notre Dame, SEC or Big 10
Fiesta- Highest ranked from the minor conferences vs At Large?

Sounds fairly reasonable, the top team from that group has shown an ability to compete. The one exception being Hawaii, but Utah, Boise, TCU all had good performances.

They are looking at having 6 bowls for the playoffs, so there will be the 5+1 guaranteed plus 4 other at large teams. They will match up the bowl tie-ins.

Maybe this isn't perfect, but at least it's better than what we got now. And remember, this is their way of getting a big paycheck to a school that more than likely wouldn't have been able to get it otherwise. Even though these smaller conference teams can't compete with the bigger conferences over a 12 game schedule, but give them a month off and time to practice, there are a lot of them I don't want any part of.

Looking at this article, it doesn't mention anything about limiting any conference with a maximum number of teams. So if we have a situation like we have this year with 6 SEC teams in the top 12, the SEC could very well get as many as 4 teams in the 12. Six of the 12 would go to conference champs plus ND (maybe) or 1 other, so a conference could get 2 of those 7 (except Big 12, only have 10 teams).....then perhaps 2 of the remaining 5. I doubt the committee would ever chose more than 2 of the last 5 from one conference.

It should be 8 teams. Top 6 regardless of conference and 2 at-large.

They'll make it 8 in another decade when they start getting criticized just like now when the overwhelming majority want to get rid of the BCS. No matter how many teams they chose, there will always be 1 or 2 teams that complain because they didn't get in.

I wonder if it would be possible for us to play Clemson twice in one of the playoff bowls? That would suck to win the first and lose the second. hopefully that would never happen.
