tried it before, doesn't look good. the black outlining the Gamecock only works because it appears as shadow and depth- white makes it look really odd.

I would love for the old ball coach to get rid of the white helmets. I hope he is just waiting to win a championship first. I think we should have a black helmet also. A lot of the players and fans now like the variation of uniforms. I know a Ducks fan and I think he said they had like five different helmets.

Nah, that is just a close up of the shoe design that the flash in the lower photo is blocking out.

Not that we won't have some form of camo or palmetto tree on the uniforms, but that isn't what the photo is showing.

I always assumed those circle's were just decals on the side of the helmet and that it was just easier to put on a circle decal than anything else. I'm probably wrong but I do think the garnet helmet is still the best looking.

The White Circle does make the Block C stand out more, and in the
origin of the design, it may have been what the Circle was for...BUT

The actual Joe Morrison era design with the Garnet Helmet and the
Circled Block C was Morrison's idea based off of an old Washington
Redskins helmet. Morrison played in the NFL for the Giants and the Redskins
and he was in Washington when they had this old design:



I think this was the Helmet that Vince Lombardi came up with to replace
the Arrow design (pre 1970). Joe Morrison said he thought this was the
best decal on any helmet he'd ever seen for it's simplicity and representation.

When he took over as the Gamecock coach, he wanted that same "feel"
to the Gamecock uniforms. That's the reason for the Block C inside the
White Circle.

IMO, I would not want to see us go to a Garnet helment without putting
the Block C inside the White Circle. As for "Retro" effect, taking away the
White Circle means losing the entire concept of that helmet which again
IMO, was the best helmet design in the history of Gamecock Football.

Good story Spurt, However,
Joe never played for anyone but the Giants. Drafted in the 4th round in 1959 and retired after the 72 season with the Giants. His #40 is retired by the Giants.
Lombardi only coached the redskins in 1969. The helmet you posted was used in the 1970 and 71 seasons.
