Default If you're looking for a good omen for the upcoming season

The last time we didn't open with a Thursday night game was 2011, when we opened up in Charlotte, NC against a team from NC (ECU). We ended up going 11-2 that season, one inexcusable 3 point loss to Auburn from playing in the SECCG and a chance to play for the natty.

Saturday night is just far superior than a Thursday game in almost every aspect, especially a late afternoon Thursday game in Charlotte traffic.

However, a bigger omen to me would be a defense with Holloman, Auguste, Allen, Gilmore, Ingram, Legree, Robertson, Hampton, Taylor & Clowney like 2011.

Best teams we've ever had thru those few years. You could also make the argument looking at the talent level those teams underachieved. A good argument actually. We had a ton of elite players.

Each of those 3 years had a freakish inexcusable loss that kept us out of Atlanta:
2011 to Auburn...we gave that game away.
2012 to Florida...held them to like 180 total yards. Lost count of our turnovers which caused it. Once-a-Decade game of implosion of turnovers.
2013 to Tennessee on the Hail Mary that set up the FG.

As good as Shaw was at home, I don't think he ever beat a ranked team on the road.

I should have said as a starter. Thompson played most of the game.

Connor Shaw's play on the road likely cost us at least one conference title. He played terrible on the road. Just being honest.

2012 imo LSU beat us twice. we should have won and the guys knew it. they didn't practice well the week after and did not look like they wanted to be there against UF.

That 2012 team was the best team we ever had until lattimore got hurt again.

We are undefeated in Bank of America Stadium, and all games have been vs teams from the state of North Carolina.

That 2011 loss to Auburn by 3 points was Stephen Garcia's last game here. He was horrible that game. I remember he couldn't even hit a swing pass. If my memory is right, I think his grandfather passed away that week and had some other issues going on.

I was at Auburn the year before & USC turned the TE (who unfortunately passed away in an auto accident) loose for a TD & in what was probably the biggest play of that game. The next year in Garcia's last game we did pretty much the same thing with the same player for another TD & again lost the game. Really aggravating.

And you're right that was probably Garcia's worst game ever along with the bowl game against Iowa.

Man, just thinking about those games (Allbarn, UCheat) and what could have been, hurts even now, but Spurrier was right when he said, "We lost some we should have won, and we won a couple we could have lost."

Man that 2013 loss to Tennessee was a kick in the balls. I don't think I've ever been more ticked off over a loss. We could have won the conference that year.
