Recruiting fixes almost everything. What matters is 2018, 2019, etc etc recruits are seeing "South Carolina" and the colors, nickname, etc, in major publicity moments. Doesnt get bigger than the Final Four. Obviously helps hoops team the most. But it sure doesnt hurt for future football recruits to see this and see how much fun these student athletes are having as Gamecocks.

Xavier Thomas and Dax Hollifield have been tweeting about the basketball team which shows that it can have an impact on big time recruits.

I believe, as a school, it helps USC's national publicity. I am not so sure it helps get recruits to join USC's football program. That being said, if the crowds can draw recruits attention, it very well could help as the football fans would easily triple the basketball arenas. Nonetheless, go USC! Let's wrap up this tourney with a national title.

By the way, I still feel magic coming in the 2017 football season too!

2017 is the year of the Rooster. Let's see if that equals some pretty awesome sports for USC.

Out of curiosity, does the Athletics Dept get any money for playing in the tourney? If so, how much?

The SEC receives the money and I assume it is a part of what they divide up annually to give to each program.

Every artile I've seen makes it sound like they do it like football bowls, where the money is tallied and paid to the conferences. According to this article, a final 4 run is worth $8.3M, which would of course get divided after all the other teams money is pooled together.

EXACTLY. Basketball and football are heavily intertwined. FB recruits on our big recruiting weekends get entry into the bball game. Gamecock NFLers JD, Bruce and Sidney Rice were all at the Greenville regional. Student athletes usually spend more time on campus with other student athletes. Maybe the connection is indirect, but it's there.

Yep. Just culturally football and basketball are tied a lot. Most kids who play one really like the other.

Without this run...a major recruit like XT might spend next weekend...who knows. At Carowinds or at the mall seeing Clemson crap in the stores. Instead hes tweeting about USC sports and watching the Gamecocks in 1 of the 4 biggest sporting events in America.

Our fan support and student support has been given a great deal of attention, too, and how it carries over to most sports. Frank Martin has been a major focal point and surely has made a great impression in every regard. His talking of other coaches, their programs, and support add to the overall picture. While he mentions SOS (greater name recognition), it would have been nice if he gave mention to Champ, as well.
All in all, those things can give recruits and parents a positive impression of how things are done here. Does this mean we will have better recruits because of this great run? No, but a few recruits could give us a second or third look and that increases our chances we just might.

I would think it helps to some extent. No recruit is going to list this run as a reason for joining the football team, but anything to elevate the brand of the school is positive. If a recruit is 50/50 between us and another school, the media attention we receive from a run like this could elevate the brand enough to give us that extra .01% we need to get that LOI.

TLDR - Yes, but only a very small amount from a branding perspective.

If my math is correct, the SEC will get 1.67 million * 5 games ( and hopefully 6) for our participation. And of course, another 1.67 million for the other 4 teams playing 11 games, or 26.72 milllion. Even split 14 ways, that gives us plenty of money to pay Martin's bonuses for the run - 1.9 million, assuming that it all falls to the bottom line.

The good news is that the NCAA pays for everything, unlike bowl games. Plane flights, hotel rooms, etc. So what we make is pure profit. Most of the SEC money comes from football, so the hoops cash is gravy on top of the mashed taters.

And speaking of mashed taters, this is doing worlds of good for putting the football natty in the rear view mirror.

I read somewhere, the more games we win, the bigger our paycheck. And the SEC will certainly get the lions share.

When Clowney and Lattimore decided to play here, our MBB program was terrible. Our MBB program during the Spurrier era was terrible, and there were no stories of recruits deciding to play here because of the football team's success.

If there is a connection (and most likely there isn't), it's not noticeable enough to matter.

There's no way to tell if it WILL but the best we can do is look to see if the same thing has happened at other programs. I can't think of any schools where success in one sport, directly contributed to the improvement of another sport. What are the ways our tournament run could help football? Publicity? Money? Recruiting? Publicity really only counts for recruiting purposes, so it boils down to money and recruiting. But basketball will never bring in the money that football does, so that leaves recruiting. How does Champ sell a recruit on joining our football program based on the success of our basketball team? I'm not sure there's much of a sales pitch there.

I think that at the stage we're at with Frank building our program it does help .. We're getting national attention as a 7 seed .. Indiana, UNC, Kentucky other established name brands not so much imo .. Plus we're South Carolina, when we win ,we don't ever think we'll lose again and when we lose we don't ever think we'll lose again ... We are the most unique fan base in the nation and have a true Gamecock fighting demeanor ..
