Default TE, WR and RB

We seem to be overloaded with potential high end TE's and WR's . Maybe even RB's. If I was Coach I would be about to crap or go blind trying to decide who to play at TE, particularly. How on earth does he decide and how does he keep the non-starters happy?????

Probably dumb question but I am just old fan, not any kind of football mind.

That is the problem you want as a coach. This is the problem that the best programs have almost every year at almost every position. One good by-product is that the top talent spends most of their time competing for playing time and less time in trouble...and the ones that are trouble can leave without much impact (aka DEPTH).

It's certainly a great problem to have, and surprisingly too given our HC and top recruiters are defensive-minded. Hopefully soon we'll have similar good problems with our DL, LB, and DB depth.....

It looks good on paper and at times had flashes during the season, but I'm going to wait until after a game or two to get too giddy about the offensive skill positions.

I agree with this. I'm optimistic, but we haven't proven enough for me to assume we'all be scoring at will all season the way some people think.

We play double TE on many offensive sets. We also use a HB very often. So that's 6 guys at the two deep that have the opportunity to see the field fairly frequently. And some of them may get cross trained at both positions.

Hurst, Markway, August, Crosby, Pollard, Hinson....no order.

Depth is never a bad thing, especially in the SEC. I am assuming that we will see a lot of rotation at all of those positions. It will be nice to be able to pound away with Williams and dowdle for 3+ quarters, then still have some speed to bring in late in the game.

I agree with this.

RB's are a good group. Small frames yet solid.

TE's: Hurst is good, not great, at catching the ball. The rest are average. All are dreadful at blocking. Dreadful.

WR's: we have one proven player. Deebo. Edwards has yet to prove that he is a consistent pass catcher, and the rest of the group is almost totally unproven.

Let's be honest. We have a long way to go.

I agree that consistency is the key word for this offense in general. Of the TEs I believe Crosby is also good as a receiver.

However the potential for this WR group is immense.

Of the skill positions that's all we lose after 2017 and that's meaning they both leave as juniors. But if they do we have shi smith and chad Terrell on the way to go along with ortre smith for this 2017 class. Will register at TE So skill positions still with great potential and young going forward

who says Debo is leaving after 2017, and Hurst better learn how to block before going to the NFL. I don't think either leave after this year.

Kiel Pollard is going to show some flashes this year at the Hybrid TE/WR position that we seem to like. If he can work on his hands over the offseason, he could really fuel our big play ability.

This will be Deebo's 4th year. He should be in line for a diploma and a nice paycheck after this year if he stays healthy.

Hurst is old for a Junior because he played minor league baseball after HS - he needs to turn pro as soon as he can or his value will drop. He catches the ball very well and improved his blocking last year - his first at TE. With similar improvement this off-season, he stands to make a lot of money after this year.

An indication of our problems is that we have not had anyone good enough to go pro early. So it is actually a nice problem to have.

Hurst is old he'll be gone after this year and of deebo is healthy the whole year he could play his way to a potential second round pick

Deebo needs to prove he can stay healthy before the NFL gives him a nice paycheck.

Hurst is still learning the position, he has to make up a lot of ground against guys that have played TE for years.

This has been a huge problem with our program...guys leaving before they're truly ready to make an impact.

Last year Bama had a DE come back for his last year after he was projected to be a 3rd round, possible 2nd round pick. His logic was simple...he looked up how much more guaranteed money he'd make by coming back, working hard, and positioning himself better.

Contrast that to our program, we have had guys beating feet down the street just to be an UDFA.

Our players need to be smarter, and they need better advice than what they'd had for years...it not only benefits the program, it benefits them.

Yep....and his age is not that big of a factor for TEs. This coming season will be huge in his development and his blocking needs to be exceptional.

Including ignoring advice from eager fans or sports agents implying huge paychecks are waiting for them in the NFL. People continue to underestimate just how hard it is to make an NFL roster. And if you get cut, those big paychecks are a fantasy.
