When I spotted this thread, I thought, "This is going to be a bit ridiculous." Then I saw the article and the photo. A 270 pound 8th grader with enough natural athletic ability and power to be a state champion wrestler already? Holy freakin' crap. This kid will be a 5-star offensive tackle in four years (if they can convince him to play offense). Maybe it's not too soon to ponder the possibilities.

against my team the battlin bruins of Lancaster....we went for two to win the game and tracy mcgriff (another bad ass that couldnt get in a decent school) dropped the pass in the back of the endzone

I've debating whether or not i should address this - i suppose i will. Call me a bad guy or whatever, I just want to clear some things up. This kid definitely accomplished something worth celebrating, but he did not win a high school state championship. I know the article doesn't say that he did, but there are a few on here that seem to believe he did. He won the middle school state championship (at the Carolina invitational). That is an awesome accomplishment, and I hope he continues to excel in all of his athletic endeavors. He could be the next Robert Quinn or Dustin Frye, but we won't know until about four years from now. In short, yes, too soon.

Sorry for rebumping an older thread but I know AJ personally and he is a GREAT young kid. Still got a lot of "puppy" in him but a great kid with tons of potential. There's also a heavyweight wrestler on the varsity team that is the starter and he's in 10th grade. He's won about 43 matches thus far this year and plays football for varsity right now. His name is Octavious Thompson and he's got brute strength that I couldn't believe.

All the parents on the wrestling team believe that if AJ will mature a little and get more aggressive he will give Octavious a push for the starting spot, but it is by NO MEANS a given that AJ will ever be better that Octavious. Octavious is just that good. Within a couple of years Octavious might be someone to watch in Union. HE would be class of 2015.
