Jonathan Walton Thread (2013 Signee)

Okay, so I just watched his video (I try not to watch videos until a kid commits to us, so I don't get my hopes up lol.) and the kid was money as a HB, LB, Kr, and PR, and FB, in highschool. Here's my take (based strictly off of this one video):

Pros:
He is a Pure athlete. He will have plenty of athleticism, speed, agility, etc. to play LB in the SEC

If he recovers a fumble or picks the ball, chances are it will be 6

He looks like he knows how to play football and has good instincts. This will go a LONG way. He knows how to use his athleticism to make the play that needs to be made, in any given play. By that, I mean he doesn't waste time or motion, he is a north/south runner and finds the best angle on on both offense and defense.

He gets off of blocks well and gets to the ball carrier.

Looks like he likes to hit


Question Marks:

His video doesn't show very much LB footage. Not sure why or if anymore do.

with that said, one might question his ability to:

read plays

drop into coverage

blitz

lead his defense/ make an adjustment

by that I mean, you don't see much of him doing the things that makes the difference between serviceable LBs and great LBs, but that isn't to say he doesn't have them.


Bottom line: I'm excited to see him play. My question mark on the video I watched on youtube is only that we don't get to see him playing his future position much. I'm not sure how many other different videos of him are out there, BUT if most of his highlights are similar to this one, that is most likely IMO the reason he didn't get a 4th star. Penn State almost certainly watched him in game during the season and I will believe their judgment on his LB skills. The kid is an athlete. I'm excited to have him more now than before I watched his film, which is actually rare for me.

He's a man child in the high school league he played in. We will have to wait and see how he is at a D1 level (just like every other recruit). He's got the size but I'd be surprised if he plays this year.

yea, thats would be the video I watched. just can't believe there are only 7 defensive plays in a 6 minute plus video of a LB. lol

Wow.

Hadn't seen his film before. He is a freak of nature. Incredible leverage at the point of attack, he just unloads.

I can see why people want to use him at H-Back. Dude is a monster.

lol what? I'll be surprised if he doesn't play this year... he will 100% get snaps, now a good amt of PT is different, but HBC said he has the talent and will be competing for the LB positions for sure next year
