no expert by any means, I've just been around the things a long time. I've seen them come back frequently. Anything from completely rusted out to melted wires, knobs that broke and came off leaving the little dial thing exposed, and even one where the burners split open. either we just got a very, very bad batch, our customers are completely retarded in grill care 101, or they're just terrible quality grills.

You really can't so much smoking on a smal grill. It is hard to do on a big one. Your best option may be to grab your cheap small grill and later add a dedicated smoker. I prefer wood/charcoal to gas for these. You can usually manage to find one for $50 or less. They are particularly good for smoking turkeys and fresh hams. Ribs too.
