Then in the West, you have Allen at Arky, Hurts at Bama, Stidham coming in at AU to battle with Sean White, Fitzgerald at MSU, Shea Patterson at Ole Miss - only TAMU and LSU have big ? there.

So 11 of 14 SEC teams are in good shape, compared to last year when it was at most 6 of 14 heading into the season (UT, TAMU, Ole Miss, maybe Arky).

Conversely, the ACC loses a lot of QBs including drafted stars at Miami, Pitt, UNC, and Clemson.
Should be's don't count for much. A lot of those guys you've mentioned, ours included, hinges a lot on progression between the seasons. As we all know, that's not a given.

Ironically, I feel like the downfall of the SEC isn't so much on QBs and more on the national preoccupation with offense. Bama didn't lose to Clemson because they couldn't out-score them; they lost because they let Watson move down the field for the winning TD. I personally feel like defenses have gotten softer because everyone is so scared of teams speeding up and tossing the ball around. You win games with offense, and sometimes get lucky enough to skirt by to a national championship, but stacked defensive lines and solid backfields are consistent and an equalizer.

That's the reason I still think we are going to struggle a bit this year.

You are underestimating the value of Quarterbacks. Someone did a quick study that showed that the ACC caught the SEC over the last year or so by having much more talent/experience at the QB position. That pendulum is rapidly swinging back to the SEC.

Offenses don't work without talented QBs to run them. And actually, QBs almost always do progress between seasons, and the amount of progression is greater when the QBs were very young the previous year. Which was the case with the SEC in general and us in particular.

Look for the SEC to become the dominant league again due to QB play, and for us to have one of the best QBs.

Georgia will be good this year and has a pretty easy schedule, so they should be the favorite. Behind them, I think we have as good a chance as anyone else.

UGA should be the favorite.............but Eason is satfford 2.0 w/o the gut (he didn't win squat when he was in Athens) and probably even less accurate. They also have no WRs and even tho 2 years ago Chubb and Micaheal were the best duo in all of CFB injures have caught up to both. I also think Mckenzie going early is an indicator that he's not sold on the Offense this year ( best wr on team and bolts after ok season). With that being said they should still win the east bc of schedule and for whatever reason God loves that obese mutt and they'll get a lucky break against us/Ucheat/UF etc.

They were 30-9 in 3 years with Stafford with wins in the chic-fila, sugar, and cap one bowls. Pretty good to me.

They also never won the division, had a first rounder at RB, maybe the best wr of that decade (2000-10), and about 20 nfl guys on those teams.........and again never won division. If Mike Davis the 1st would have held onto the football he would have been 1-2 against us, and never getting his team to score more than 18 on us (pretty sure he made Johnthan Joesph into a 1st rounder). But yah beating Hawaii in the sugar bowl changes everything. I will say this much guy got paid and has a smoking hot wife. Now with the state of east today dude would run rough shot, but back then UT was still good. Also A A Ron Murray ended up being the better player, and its laughable to saw he has as much talent as Stafford or had as much talent as him around him. He also captained a team that was preseason number One and ended the year at 13 and took a beat down form florida. I would take 30-9 too, but the expectations were Title or bust and he didn't accomplish that.

Georgia has historically been known for doing less with more. Never had a 1,000 yard receiver.

By the way, we were 33-6 over our 3 year run.

If he hadn't signed those jerseys Aj would have easily had 1k yards in 2010. He actually led the league in yards in 08 (probably would have gotten 1k that year too if they had worked him in as starter earlier), and again they didn't win the East w/ him knoshwon etc to compliment Stafford.

Boom said what he learned at Florida was that the team that scores the most points wins. I believe that to be true because he is giving Roper the resources to score a lot of points. Will we score 50 a game probably not but 30 is attainable against any team we play.

I think a big thing for him with this class is adding more firepower to the offense. It's clear he knows that was his Achille's heel at Florida and won't let it drag him down here.

If he had the same skill positions at Florida as he does now, he'd still be at Florida with a top 10 team every year.

No doubt. If he can keep bringing in the type of offensive players he has so far and shore up the defense in the next couple seasons we may be looking at quite a dangerous team. The kind that all the arrogant blue blood teams won't see coming.

We still lack talent on D so I don't see a Top 25 Defense (total yardage). But Boom's Defenses have gotten better year to year, and the improved O will keep the D off the field more. So Top 50 overall is very realistic, and I could see us in the Top 25 on scoring defense. Boom's Ds give up yardage but are stingier with scores.

Ace, you may not expect help from me being a Dawg, but I will agree with you and add: A QB can carry a team, but if it is a good "Team" the QB wil only be asked to carry the team is certian situations. History shows that teams that have a QB that carries the team on his back have a rough time rebuiding the team after he leaves. Watson will be sorely missed by Clemson. He is a specail player that will be hard to replace.

Yeah, our game with you was a prime example of a QB not carrying a team - Eason had his worst game of the year but you still won, hopefully we can do a little better with Bentley playing. Eason had other games where he did step up and helped get the W.

Watson's loss would not be as severe if:
  • There was a clear back-up with experience - but Clemson lost their #2 QB also, and the #3 guy did not get a lot of reps and may not start. Watson had basically run and started in the Clemson system for 5 years, the new guy will have 0 - 2 years in the system and no starts.
  • If the new QB had a similar skillset to Watson, who was perfect for Clemson's offense - but Clemson does not know who will start, and it appears they will go either with a running QB or more of a pro-style type.
  • If there were a lot of returnees around him - but Clemson will have to replace veteran starters/stars at TE, RB, and WR (2).
  • If the O Line was really good - and it is not. Clemson got the ball out quickly with a veteran QB that could scramble and he had good chemistry with talented receivers, so the sack numbers were low. But they will not be able to be as effective with the quick passes this year due to inexperienced and less talent personnel. And they were not good at run blocking last year - the run totals dropped per game and per carry for Gallman (app. 1/2 yard less) and Watson ( 1-1/2 yards per carry - ouch). And their best O Lineman is gone.

They have talent on Offense, including QB, but not as much, as good, or as experienced. It is nice to be able to hand the ball off to a Grubb or Michel when the passing game bogs down. Clemson does not have that luxury.
