We have a good young QB, UGA has Eason, UK has Drew Barker coming back to compete with Johnson, Mizzou has Lock, UF has Zaire, Vandy has Schurmur - everybody in the East is in good shape at QB except UT, which oddly was picked 6th with all of their skill guys gone and a "squishy soft" D.

Then in the West, you have Allen at Arky, Hurts at Bama, Stidham coming in at AU to battle with Sean White, Fitzgerald at MSU, Shea Patterson at Ole Miss - only TAMU and LSU have big ? there.

So 11 of 14 SEC teams are in good shape, compared to last year when it was at most 6 of 14 heading into the season (UT, TAMU, Ole Miss, maybe Arky).

Conversely, the ACC loses a lot of QBs including drafted stars at Miami, Pitt, UNC, and Clemson.
Should be's don't count for much. A lot of those guys you've mentioned, ours included, hinges a lot on progression between the seasons. As we all know, that's not a given.

Ironically, I feel like the downfall of the SEC isn't so much on QBs and more on the national preoccupation with offense. Bama didn't lose to Clemson because they couldn't out-score them; they lost because they let Watson move down the field for the winning TD. I personally feel like defenses have gotten softer because everyone is so scared of teams speeding up and tossing the ball around. You win games with offense, and sometimes get lucky enough to skirt by to a national championship, but stacked defensive lines and solid backfields are consistent and an equalizer.

That's the reason I still think we are going to struggle a bit this year.

You are underestimating the value of Quarterbacks. Someone did a quick study that showed that the ACC caught the SEC over the last year or so by having much more talent/experience at the QB position. That pendulum is rapidly swinging back to the SEC.

Offenses don't work without talented QBs to run them. And actually, QBs almost always do progress between seasons, and the amount of progression is greater when the QBs were very young the previous year. Which was the case with the SEC in general and us in particular.

Look for the SEC to become the dominant league again due to QB play, and for us to have one of the best QBs.
