The could-have-won-10 argument cuts both ways, though. We also won three three-point games that we easily could have lost, including one in UF in which we had the lowest fourth quarter win probability of any game played in FBS that year. In the UGA game, the Dawgs missed a fourth quarter chip shot FG to tie the game late, and then we received a questionable spot on fourth down that, had we not made it, UGA would've had the ball inside our territory again with a minute and a half to go. Lose those games, and we'd have been 4-8 with no bowl.

Every team in the SEC east has a shot because the conference is as bad as it's been in a long, long time.

I mean, as bad as we seemed last year, we were one game away from being tied for 2nd place in the east. Florida should win, but I'm not sold on them by a long shot.

My only point is that the defense was the glaring issue with that team. When the offense is on the field all game, they're going to be sucking wind. The same goes for a defense with no offense. If we can manufacture a pass rush, and grow up quickly in the secondary, we have a good a shot as anyone.

I believe Mark Richt said after the game "I think maybe they could have slipped a credit card in there".

Isn't a team that's supposed to lose but could surprise and win the definition of a dark horse?

You have to put us in as a dark horse just because Bentz at QB and our running backs and TE. Our WRs should be a force to deal with also. We should be able to score a fair amount of points if the OL comes together a little. If that happens we will pop some upsets this year. Jawja, Flawda and Tennersea all have questions at QB when we dont. Not saying we will beat all 3 teams, but we will have a chance due to the players listed above.
Our defense will benefit from better offense this year also. Even though I agree that our Dline will not be that good, we could stay in some games from timely turnovers and some nice clock eating drives by our offense.
A lot of ifs in my narritive but it does show how we could possibly be trouble for some teams this year.

I'd love to hear some offseason reports. From this video, it looks like Jake Bentley is really stepped up and become a leader.

Check out the real brief clip at about 22 seconds.

..Good Point and the reason the SEC has been sub par to our own standards is QBs. Really no very good QB in a couple of years now. I think that will change some this year but the SEC is still elite QB poor at this time.

This offense has a chance to be really good this year. Look at all the Freshman, RS Freshman, and inexperienced Sophomore's that got meaningful playing time last year. Bentley, Edwards, Dowdle, and AJ Turner all now have a full year plus in the system and S&C. Deebo is healthier now than he's ever been and is on track to a first team all SEC season. Donnell Stanley is back to help anchor the line. Speaking of the line, we now have a coach that can teach the players technique and not advertise to the defense what the offense is about to run.

While the defense is still a question mark and incoming talent will be relied on for help I think they can be at least average if not better. Skai returning is huge and having him and BAW anchoring the middle will help this defense a lot.

Yes we are a dark horse but not one that should be taken lightly. I believe that this team is bound for 8 or more wins this year as long as Bentley can stay healthy.

I like that we have Ski back on the field. We will have a guy that can make sure all the players are in their proper places during the game. How effective he will be in tackling and pursuit remains to be seen but having him as the field general will be a big help to our defense.

Actually, the SEC should be much improved this year and the reason is the QBs.

We have a good young QB, UGA has Eason, UK has Drew Barker coming back to compete with Johnson, Mizzou has Lock, UF has Zaire, Vandy has Schurmur - everybody in the East is in good shape at QB except UT, which oddly was picked 6th with all of their skill guys gone and a "squishy soft" D.

Then in the West, you have Allen at Arky, Hurts at Bama, Stidham coming in at AU to battle with Sean White, Fitzgerald at MSU, Shea Patterson at Ole Miss - only TAMU and LSU have big ? there.

So 11 of 14 SEC teams are in good shape, compared to last year when it was at most 6 of 14 heading into the season (UT, TAMU, Ole Miss, maybe Arky).

Conversely, the ACC loses a lot of QBs including drafted stars at Miami, Pitt, UNC, and Clemson.

..Aint buying Hurts, he cant throw it in the ocean. AllBarn situation is going to be a train wreck like last year. Eason aint showed me crap yet. Zaire probably want even start unless the QB situation is really that bad at Flawda. I can see however Fitz,Schurmur, Patterson and maybe Lock having some decent success. Of course all opinion but the only one I would say is a sure hit would be Fitz and Bentz. The rest have a lot of work to do.

Hurts is not there as a passer yet but is a talented DT guy that will get better quickly. Stidham was lights out at Baylor and White just had a nice year (he was originally ranked #1 at the same Elite 11 camp that Watson attended), so no trainwreck - more like (maybe) the best pair of QBs on any team in America. I'm not sold on Eason either but he does have size, talent, arm strength and a year of experience. Zaire was good enough to beat out Golson at ND, and Golson was good enough to start at FSU.

All four situations are much improved from last year.
