Default Jamarcus King season MVP?

IMO, King saved this season from being miserable and made it one of the best seasons we've had. I understand he had a few PI's that seemed to always be on third down. However, empirically Pro Football Focus graded him as our best cornerback and consider him NFL ready. His solid play while being targeted more than any other DB we have is not the primary reason I consider him the MVP. His red zone interception against Louisiana Tech and his end zone interception against Michigan turned the game around and maintained momentum respectively. I honestly believe were it not for his LaTech pick we lose that game and possibly fall apart as a team. The Michigan pick preserved our comeback in the victory that turned a decent season into a relatively great one. I'm really glad he had a strong season after the Clemson performance last year.

Let's face it... we had a basket of defensive stars this season. You all know who they are, so there is no need to make mention of them. The entire defensive team was very impressive in the Outback Bowl, which gives me high hopes for the further development of this unit.

King definitely had a couple of different interceptions that could have saved our season.

It wouldn't be hard to argue that King, Fenton, Skai, Wonnum and a few others could all be defensive MVPs.

I think that I would lean more to Wonnum or Skai.

I don’t think there was a clear winner, so let’s give it to the entire defense. A lot of guys made outstanding plays during the season. Our defense is just getting warmed up.

Right, but 9-4 wont cut it for much longer. Muschamp has higher expectations and he needs to produce.

Default Jamarcus King season MVP?

Id say most improved award, but not MVP. He def. grew up a lot this year compared to last year. But I agree with other folk when saying Skai or Wonnum should be at the top. But heck, the whole defense could be the MVP. The defense kept us in a lot of games this year, especially when we thought the offense would be lighting the scoreboard up. You can see the great job that T Rob is doing. Hell be a great HC one day, but I hope its not any time soon, haha.

I like everything I read on these posts. King just reminds me so much of a DJ Swearinger but a lite version. He had a lot of swagger, and I always liked that, not to mention he hit hard as hell, and backed it up a lot. Sometimes he would get burned, but sometimes everyone gets burned.
Our D is going to hurt some next year with the loss of Skai. O Coordinators had to game plan around him because he such a ball hawk. But I feel our D will recover with losing him, someone will step up.
As far as MVP, man, that is a tough call. I could go with any of the names listed throughout the post, minus Jake Bentley. I love Jake, but he is not anywhere on the MVP list yet. He had a rough year.

There are a few guys that could take an "MVP" title this year. King one of them so got no problem with that. Skai as well. The defense really kept us in games when our offense was farting around so take your pick. Some of the defensive ling guys should get a nod.

Brian Edwards / Hayden Hurst on the offense.

King had a good year but is not MVP or Most Improved - he was pretty solid last year until the Clemson game where he got manhandled, even then he was in position.

I would put Skai, TJ, DJ, Stallworth, Sawyer, Fenton and Kinlaw ahead of King on Defense. Kinlaw was the star of the bowl game to me, causing the key fumble inside the 10 that kept us alive and then recovering another fumble.

With 4 of those guys coming back (assuming the Island does not leave early) plus BAW, I feel good about the D for 2019.

you want to make King the MVP based off of a couple of timely interceptions that had more to do with him being in the right place the right time when the other team made a mistake. It could have happened to anyone who was doing a semi-decent job, so I will say I have to disagree.

There is not a good video angle for the Michigan INT, but the LaTech INT was more than right place, right time.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ig2MO8rEdU8

C'mon man. It was athletic and clutch AF. It was also extremely crucial to the season as a whole after the disappointing UK loss the week prior. Great plays are about timing and the context in which they occurred.

It is cool to disagree, but your comments seem unnecessarily dismissive of King's contribution. Maybe I am reading your comment wrong. If so, I apologize.

I only want to add that Wonnum, if he stays healthy, is going to be absolutely amazing here.

Can he run a fake punt?
