You just made my point.

He could have played ahead of whoever was ahead of him but he didn't.

He could have, but maybe the guy that was ahead of him was better which is usually the case.

Neither Lattimore, Davis, Carson or Wilds redshirted. Although, Wilds was forced to play. I really don't think RB need a RS year if they are good enough. Neither of Georgia's starting RB RS last year. RB take such a pounding, most have a limited # of rushes especially if they are power backs.
Correct. This is the key point. "Good enough" depends partly upon who else they are competing with for playing time. If our RB stable were as it was when Latti came in, I would almost expect Williams to play early-on. As it stands now, it's wait-and-see in my view. If one or two injuries occur, he will likely be put into the rotation.

RB is a position where a kid can come in as a true frosh and play right away. However, I will be seriously impressed if Williams proves ready to take carries away from David/Wilds. If he can't pass block, he won't play much.

I'm not including Carson in this either. I am unsure how anyone knows what to expect from him since he has had some unfortunate luck since being on campus. However, when healthy - he has worked his way to PT, albeit however brief it may have been.

The good news is that we are in good shape at RB and you never know what can happen with injuries.

Yep, the last two years we've had to rely on 3rd or even 4th string backs. Gotta have depth.

Anytime a true Freshman can come in and win the starting job is a good thing for a team. When you have a stable of really good RB's and a true Freshman comes in and wins the starting job it's a great thing. If Williams can come in and compete for even substantial playing time with the stable of talent we have at that position then he is the real deal and should definitely play. How people can automatically pin a redshirt on him before he even sets foot on campus is mind boggling.

I don't want to take this thread too far away from Williams, but the Smith highlight film put one thought in my head. Even a HS kid who tried to arm tackle a back that strong would be doing laps next practice on most teams. He made some good runs, but I didn't see anything that transfers to the SEC level like on the Williams film. Williams showed vision and speed that constantly got him separation and let him split defenders without being touched. Smith broke a lot of arm tackles. I'm skeptical about Williams coming in and playing right away, but the things I've heard and seen about Smith support his versatility and determination more than anything.

As I recall, Smith did play in the highest HS level in Florida so he was playing against legitimate competition. Actually, I never pay much attention to highlight video. I would much prefer to watch someone play an entire game to get a better feel for their ability.

Jamari Smith had excellent vision on those runs. Breaking arm tackles or not he still got those yards and scored TD's. I could see him being a big special teams threat with that kind of vision. He's got sneaky speed & dosent like to get tackled.

While there were a lot of arm tackles, I think he had a lot to do with that.

He seems to have a knack for making defenders take a bad angle on him. Whether its forms little juke move or setting up his blocks, you never really see anybody with a good angle to tackle him. And the more you watch, the more apparent it is that it's because of what he is doing not bad tackling really.

I know that the guys tackling him in the sec are better at taking angles but it was just an ovservation.

We won't know anything about Smith or Williams RS'ing until fall camp. Who knows, either might actually come in and win a spot on the 2 deep. There are a lot of things that can happen and they both have awesome HS highlights going against HS players, but it depends if it can transfer to SEC level players.

Before everyone decides they will be defense or not be a good SEC running back lets let them take the field and see what theyve got. I dont care what anyone says.....You set records in the highest division of HS football in Florida you can flat out run the dang football.

Jamari was told by staff that he would get his shot on offense 1st. His preference is RB.
