Wasn't sure if this belongs here or in the basketball forum or the "other sports" forum . The first section of this article is on the Palmetto 76ers AAU team , including Heathwood Hall's A'Ja Wilson who is now rated the number one player in the 2014 class .

They are absolutely loaded. If we land A'Ja along with the crew Dawn has now this Team will certainly be a National contender.

A 6-5 player who could play at any position might just be the piece of the puzzle that could get us over the top!

After growing 4 inches during that spurt to reach 6-foot-4, the Hopkins, S.C., resident still has the skills of a small guard and the athleticism that allowed her to finish third in the state in the 100-meter dash -- as an eighth-grader. But she now also has the height to battle in the post and to dunk a basketball.


So far, she has made unofficial visits to North Carolina, South Carolina and Clemson.


Entering this week she is averaging 26.9 points, 15.0 rebounds, 6.7 blocks, 4.1 assists and 2.8 steals a game.

I somehow get the feeling that this girl is someone that wants to go play elsewhere, perhaps at one of the traditional powers....also her being adamant about playing guard, I think she wouldn't be a good fit in Coach Staley's philosophy. Would be a huge shame though, as she is certainly a physical freak on the basketball court...

We are becoming a power under Dawn Staley - sweet16 last year and capable of the same this year. Next year Alaina Coates could put us over the top to Elite Eight or Final Four status. My future problem will be attending both the men's and women's NCAA Tournament at the same time.

Wilson is very familiar with USC . I have seen her on unofficial visits at football games and in attendance at women's basketball . Saw her at one women's game this season sitting behind the Gamecock bench with signee Alaina Coates . The main thing that worries me is that once she starts taking her official visits these other places may seem new and exciting by comparison . Just have to hope she wants to stay home and play .
The coach of the 76ers, Jerome Dickerson, is the father of Brionna Dickerson who played at USC . As a senior in Dawn Staley's first season , Brionna was playing the best basketball of her career when she unfortunately suffered a season ending knee injury . If her sister Victoria is anything like Brionna I hope we offer her .

Dreher has always been a great place for women's (and sometimes mens...alex english) basketball players. Staley needs to grab both these ladies.

It sure would - can you imagine winning a national championship with all 5 starters from South Carolina? Don't forget about Aleighsa Welch - she was ranked 88th in her class by Hoopgurlz, but she is MUCH better than that.

LOL, guys, there you go again thinking inside-the-box and talking about a starting five.

The girl that re-defined the point guard position she played is all grown up now. and she and those gifted assistants of hers have decided they're gonna re-define the game itself.

The way this thing is shaping up, the so-called starting five will just be the first wave she hits our opponents with. Seven to ten into the game, she'll hit them with the second wave just as talented and driven as the first.

Playing both ends of the court like hellions possessed, it'll be all over but the cryin' with fifteen to go most games. And when it's not, she'll call a TO and tell her team, 'OK, ladies, time to dial it up a notch and put this thing away. Crunch time is what you live for and it's here.'

It would help if we could get a few more fannies in the seats . We have # 5 Kentucky in town Thursday . Would be nice to have five or six thousand at least, enough for a little atmosphere .

Well, it's a free country. If Geno wants to scout his competition a few years early, he can. You see, there's a few things he and the rest can't offer that Dawn can.
1) Home cooking -can't beat it.
2) Dawn's been there and done that. She can show you, as well as tell you, how it's done.
3) Be the first to win a Natty in WBB for Dawn and USC.
4) It's cold out there. She can finish her growing up close to home, visit those other places, learn from the best and be ready to tackle the world in four years.
5) Geno is pushing 60; Dawn's 17-18 years younger.
6) They're both great coaches, but Geno has never been asked to carry that flag by his peers.
