Default why no mention of Garcia as potential qb for Spurrier

Why?? He got railroaded by Hymen and deserves another shot to play. Makes me sick to hear names like Tebow and Manziel when Garcia is better in my opinion.

He is a private/consulitng QB Coach in FL. He's not playing anymore, and hasn't played in a league since 2014. I think he could be a great mentor coach. He had the skill set to be great, he was tutored by one of the best QB Coaches of all time, Spurrier. He had the life experiences that these young kids can relate to and he can speak from the heart about the consequences of not making the right choices. He'll probably do well at that, he might even get picked up by a team to be a QB Coach.

I'm a huge Garcia fan, but let's not pretend he was on the same level as Tebow.

Probably because Garcia has hung it up. Tebow and Manziel have been staying in shape with their respective sports. On top of that, Spurrier didn't exactly love Steven.

True. I think Garcia is about as interested in a reunion as Spurrier. Don't think they have animosity towards each other, but it wasn't a love connection either.

I'm more interested if Ellis Johnson hooks up with Spurrier's staff. They had a great working relationship and Johnson clearly wants to keep coaching in some capacity.

He didn’t get “railroaded by Hyman”. And no, he doesn’t “deserve another shot to play”.

He had his shot, didn’t take advantage of it. Hopefully as a QB Coach he’ll steer some other kid out of trouble down the road

As a college player? No.

Would I rather have Garcia under center in this new league instead of Tebow? Probably (if you're looking for a QB who can throw). SG can spin it better then Tebow, but Tebow would drive viewership and ticket sales.

Eh, Tebow's stats as a passer in college blow Stephen's out of the water.

Completion %: 66.4 vs 57.7

TD/INT: 88/16 vs 47/41

Yards/attempt: 9.3 vs 7.4

Yep...TT was a top passer in college. SG got beat out by a better QB at USC.

I suppose it depends on how the league wants to position itself. From what I gather, they want to have players who were just not quite good enough for the NFL and maybe serve as a way to let these players audition for the NFL. None of the players you mention really fit that mold, with perhaps the exception of Manziel. It could end up just being a way for washed-up has-beens to extend their playing days though. Either way, I give the league 3 years.

People want to watch quality football. Coming on the heels of the Super Bowl, it will look pretty rough. The number of people who will watch any and all football, regardless of quality, won't be enough to make the league financially viable.

Garcia was a knuckle head, Hyman had nothing to do with that. Garcia is weighing in at light 250lbs now. He aint playing no footzball any time soon.

I was just messing around, but it really depends on what's going to work. I personally feel like it's a decent model but is going to be hard to gain traction or be a large profit generator. What needs to happen is similar to baseball--teams need to help offset the overhead of the league. Each division should sponsor one minor league team for a league of 8. I'm sure there are logistics I don't know, and maybe it would be best managed in a supplemental draft.

For example, a Columbia based minor league team would be composed of a supplemental draft of players by the Panthers, Falcons, Saints, and Bucs. Each team would get first rights to the players they draft and then would enter a tiered free agency after every season first to the division and then to the league. A certain percentage of each roster would be walk-on or transfer players. One year contracts only. And let's be honest, most aren't going to make it anywhere but to the practice squads at best, but it's still a paycheck for playing football.

Basically, this will never make money like the NFL. It serves a purpose and would be fun to waste some time with, but that's about it. The owners sounded like they wanted this to be a legitimate venture, but that also doesn't mean you shouldn't throw some bones out there. Like, an obligation for the team to draft a fan favorite. Promotional nights. And there's got to be clear evidence to the players that the league is taking this seriously. No one is really going to bust their ass if the NFL never takes a look at the MVPs from the minor league.
