The news start rolling in again today with two small economic reports. The Labor Department releases productivity numbers which obviously are expected to be sky high with companies have to function with less workers. The Commerce Department releases wholesale trade inventories. These two reports have a small chance of being market movers but are unlikely to have much impact.
The Fed meets today and is expected to leave rates at the historic low of 0.25 percent. Super economic bell weather Walmart releases earnings this week and will give insight into the minds of the American consumer during this recession. Adecco, a large overseas temp agency, reported a disastrous quarter this morning. This is important because in a recovery, businesses turn to temp workers first. Oil could make moves today. China imported a record amount of oil last month as their production levels fell and their demand rose. The potential for a tropical storm appearing in the Atlantic has increased. But there is also negative pressure on prices of oil with analysts expecting inventory to have risen for a third consecutive week. |

The Productivity report blows away expectations with a 6.3% increase. This report is both good and bad. It indicates that there still isn't any inflationary pressure and that companies are asking more of their remaining workers. It also indicates that the remaining workers are capable of doing the job. Overall though a rise is probably good news.

Wholesale inventories dropped by a larger margin than expected but given that sales for business rose, this really looks to be setting up and opportunity for some growth.
The Down is now down 95. |

The Treasury Auction demand was extremely high with the prices higher than expected which in turn lowers the rate. The Dow is down 71.
In what could be a game changing technology, GM has predicted that the Volt will get a gas rating in city of 230 miles per gallon. |
