Default Rivals.com Experts: What we learned in Week 2

STEVE MEGARGEE:

Stephen Garcia

South Carolina coach Steve Spurrier finally has his quarterback. South Carolina lost a game but found a quarterback Saturday night. After playing relatively well in a season-opening win over N.C. State, Stephen Garcia showed Saturday in a 41-37 loss to Georgia that he finally was ready to live up to the fanfare that accompanied his arrival at South Carolina. Garcia threw for 313 yards and two touchdowns and also showed off his mobility by rushing for 42 yards on 10 carries. South Carolina made plenty of mistakes. The defense couldn't stop Georgia, the kickoff coverage was terrible and a blocked extra point prevented the Gamecocks from tying the game in the fourth quarter. But this time, the errors weren't coming from the quarterback position. If Garcia plays this well the rest of the season, South Carolina could go 9-3.

finally somebody other than me says it, if the same offense that we had against UGA showesup the rest of the season, and our defense and special teams get it back under control, this team could go 10-2, (i know we could but i just dont see anyone beating FLA this year)

If we get the defense from the NC State to show up at the same time the Carolina offense showed up in the UGA game... We could be very good... 9-3 is possible in that senario. I dont see us beating Florida or @Bama

See, there you go, "don't see us beating FL or AL". Why not? Let's play the game and go for the win. Tebow is not perfect and is subject to a loss. FL will lose this year and it will be against us. Bama, the same. If we improved in 2 games and each game makes a difference, then we should have a good game against FL or AL. With raised expectations and energy, greatness can be achieved. We have the talent, the men just need to put the mental with it. We are as deserving as anyone we play this year. UGA may fall flat on their faces this year, but we may rise. They were only one game - ONTO NEXT WEEK & THE NEXT. THIS IS NEXT YEAR!!!!!!!

I also see Florida and Alabama as the two teams we have the least chance of beating. We do not have anywhere near the depth that they have.

i agree with the special teams point, when we talk about missing succop thats ignoring the problem. yates is getting good distance on his kicks for the most part, when he's kicking it near the goaline and guys arent staying in their lanes or making tackles, the latter is the problem. we always talk about the defense killing us down the stretch in 2007, but really it only killed us against arkansas and florida. the special teams killed us in games that we actually had a chance to win that year.

I'm sorry but I see us beating Alabama because they didn't look very sharp against VaTech. And I believe they struggled for the first half against Florida Int? And as far as Florida is concerned they still have yet to prove to me that they are good against anyone respectable because they schedule their first 2 games against cupcakes. I think we have a chance to go 10-2 this year. We have proven that we can play on the road. We can play down and come back.

I preached this over and over. We have to stop shooting ourselves in the foot. We can't give up 100yd kickoff returns. Nor can we make stupid plays on offense.

All in all we have a chance to make this a season to remember and possibly go to a New Year's Day bowl again or better yet.... A BCS BOWL!!!

Our defense played well enough to win, despite the injuries. It's the Special Teams that needs a lot of work.

We could easily go 5-1 in the first half of the season...i'd take it...and you would have too at the beginning of the season! Then at bama...vandy...at UT...at Ark..UF...and Clemson! I'll take 3 of 6 any day from these! 4 is goin to be tough 5 would be miraculous and well 6...i'll should have started praying a long time ago!

We had no stop to UGA up the middle........

But I said the other night, the only team on our schedule I fear is UF....... If we play up to our "potential", I think we have a shot at the rest...... including bama.............

We may not win them, but I do know now we have potential, and I also believe we have the coaching to bring it out.

I am worried about our kickoff return team........ hopefully we can shore that up before the next game!

Special teams is what really cost us. We better have that fixed because there is no way our defense will be able to hold the offenses we play if they are starting every drive at the 50 yard line. Once we force opponents to start deeper in our territory is when we will see our strong defense reemerge.
