Lucky bastards. Mississippi State students didn't have class today because of the football game against LSU tonight.

And to the guy that said it's a crappy move by an Academic institution, are you ok with the players missing classes. I mean supposedly they are here for academics first right?

I think it was the wrong decision from a university standpoint. It just proves that football is king in the sec institutions. However I do understand it but I would have cancelled tomorrows classes not today's. The students are gonna either be celebrating all night or drowning their sorrows.

They're the worst academic institution in the SEC...not even close.

Their students need to be on the level of the Cajuns coming in for the game. School shouldn't have officially cancelled classes, all the profs should have though.

Players usually have their schedules built so that they wouldn't miss classes anyways. Last year, all the players were in my large lecture with me on our Thursday game day and Rodney Paulk was always in my class on Fridays before away games. Players usually don't miss classes.

So yes....I agree, this is an irresponsible move by Mississippi State.

Before I graduated from Carolina in '08, I had multiple professors cancel Thursday night classes when there was a game. And also had a lot of early Friday classes (9am or before) cancel as well.

I don't see what the big deal is, it's really just being smart.

Here is what I think some people are pointing out. It's one thing for professors to make the call to cancel their classes the day/night of a football game. It's another for the university to cancel all classes.

I don't get why they'd cancel Thursday classes. I had a few profs at Carolina that cancelled Friday classes cause they knew no one would come. But why Thursday?

Yeah that sucks if they have class tomorrow. I'd much rather be able to go out Thurs. night after the game than have to worry about going to class. (Probably wouldn't go anyways)

They don't officially get cancelled, but teachers in my 5:30s on thursdays usually have us come in take role (give us extra credit for that) and then let everyone leave 5 minutes later.

When we played Auburn in 2006, one of my girlfriends professor's gave the class the option of coming to class at all. Needless to say, no one went.
