5th Quarter with Gary Danielson

Interesting discussion on the 5th Quarter show with Gary Danielson on cbssports.com right now. He said that he thought we had the best talent in the conference, but the Garcia situation de-railed the program. He laid a lot of it on the HBC. Still going on.

I'd have to agree with that assessment...Hind site is always 20/20, but what if Garcia had been dismissed after the 3rd or 4th incident...a different qb with a better work ethic, just where could this team be with a solid 2nd or 3rd year starter?

On a side note, they had Peyton Manning in the booth during the Tenn-LSU game. Of course, if Manning is up there, you just want to hear him talk about the game, as that would be really interesting in view of his vast knowledge and sharp judgment. Danielson (I guess he was excited) kept interrupting him and wouldn't shut up. Really irritating.

Not sure how Garcia's dismissal last week caused our offense to pretty much suck the 6 games prior.

while we have a really good team I don't think you can say we have more talent than Alabama, LSU. Arky, Florida, Auburn are there with us. With us probably being third in the conference and top of the second group

My opinion- had Spurrier not blown the playcalling vs Auburn and we won Garvia would still be starting. Since the HBC can never be wrong, blame and fire Garcia- whose blandness was a result of following playcalling and instruction- rather than say yep I blew it. So he fired Garcia and... SOS did not get rid of Garcia. Hymen did. Garcia was not ready to play this year and that is nobody fault but his. and this is coming from a TeamGarcia guy.

So Garcia isn't responsible for his own actions? Come on - I don't celebrate what has happened to him, but at the end of the day he made his own bed.

Garcia signed a contract to come back. Then he violated the terms of the contract. As a result, the AD's office decided to void the contract, which, by default, kicks Garcia off of the team.

Notice how I was able to explain all of that without mentioning Spurrier? Also, just so you know, college football players don't get "fired," except of course Terrelle Pryor.

Not sure what you are getting at. Was this a quote on the show? Also, our offense only sucked the first 5 weeks of the season...and then again today. Today wasn't as bad as it will be made out to be though, offensively.

Danielson just said that Spurrier should have worked more closely with Grcia to develop him, but that it ultimately was Garcia's fault. My take on his comments was that the whole Garcia episode was a distraction that ultimatley hurt our team.

Then Danielson doesn't know his ass from a hole in the ground. Spurrier tried hard to work with Garcia and he wouldn't listen. He tried and tried. Finally he brought in Mangus to be his personal coach and that helped some. But to say we didn't try with Garia defies rational thought. We probably tried too hard when we should have moved on. Anyway, we are where we are. We will still win this thing.

I have no doubt that Garcia made little effort to improve his skills over the course of his career, and it showed in his regression during the bowl game last year and the first several games this year. That horse has now left the barn by the way ...

I don't believe this. You could make a case that we have players as good as anyone's at key positions (Lattimore, Alshon, Clowney, etc.), and that we have as many all conference picks as anyone at this point.

But if there were a mystical scale that could measure athletic ability LSU, Florida, Georgia, and Alabama would outweigh us.

Auburn is about the same as us, but much younger. Arkansas has about the same amount of athletic ability as us as well. After today's game I think Mississippi State has some excellent players, but we have more guys that make plays when they have to.

But despite all that I'm positive we would have top 20, maybe even top 15 talent in the whole country. It's just the conference we play in.
