I agree that it's not really close. Clowney has such a rare blend of athleticism, speed, and power...you just don't see it come around that often.

There is a kid for 2014 named Da'Shawn Hand from Virginia that is going to be the next in line.

Clowney will be a star by the time his College days are done. Robert will be a solid workhorse player who won't make quite as many highlight reels. I would have loved to have him come to USC, but I still think it is questionable that he lands at Clemson... after all Les Miles & Nick Saban won't give up just because he gave a verbal.

This is my ranking of them coming out of high school Ranking 1. Clowney 2. Hand 3. Nkemdiche College Production Ranking (Basically when all is looked back on when all college careers are over for these guys.) 1.Hand/Clowney (So much alike on athleticism and range) 2.Nkemdiche (Very Good but not GREAT like these two ^^) |

As was said by every recruitnik on the planet during his recruitment, Clowney is a once in a decade type talent AND he has the motivation to be great.

Nkemdiche would make the NFL if only he had a head coach, and not a cheerleader...

Well, Nkemdiche may play lights out for the Tigers, but even he will not be able to single-handedly bring a NC to Clemson. Before he leaves Clemson, he will wish he had gone to Georgia or Bama.

From what I've seen and heard of NKemdiche, he should be a top player at Clemson. Time will tell if he becomes a top draft prospect and a dominating player. It is easy to see why we might not be in his list of interests. We have a strong, developing list of DE's with a former 2-3 star (Taylor) likely to leave among the top DE's in the country. We have Clowney (enough said) for 2 more years. We have English in, Thomas likely coming, Dixon, Fordham, and Sutton on board and gaining experience. We've got Hill (huge and fast) and 2 other recruits committed. Comparing him to Clowney is interesting, but mainly just a PR point. Clemson fans have been aching for something like this since Clowney's decision, and they will play it as loudly as they can. Someone cue up the highlight films from his junior year with Clowney's sophomore and junior year highlights. Stark differences.

Compare The Hulk to Superman. Both have unlimited strength (potential) but Superman has more abilities than Hulk. The difference is that no one knows what Clowney's kryptonite is.

I will do some checking around as the week progresses next week to get a feel for the real reaction of this commitment. After the excitement of his teammates committing, the whole camp vibe, and Dabo's recruiting pitches have eased off, it will be interesting to see how this plays out. I will be surprised if this commitment holds until next february. I was told his father wasn't high on Clemson and he didn't even tell his dad his plans on committing. This along with LSU, Alabama, and possibly Ole Miss not planning on stopping his recruitment, may be a gamechanger. After the lust with Clemson is over I believe Robert will sit down within a month or so alone, wondering to himself did he make the right decesion and thats when I think this whole thing starts to warm up.
Coming from a neutral stand point, this is a great pick up for the Clemson Tigers nonetheless. A very good DE whole has strength and a bit of speed for a guy of his stature. Although I do think his recruitment is far from over, Kamara and Gallaman may be the pull Clemson needs to retain his commitment. Remember this: Clemson has had NUMEROUS big time commitment's during there Camp week like Nkemdiche. Quite a number of them have end up decommitting in the end. See : Jarrod Britt, Peanut Whitehead, Aj Harmon, Marlin Lane. My Projection for Nkemdiche Destination: With Clemson having his teammates on board with not many other options for those two, Nkemdiche may feel obligated to go to Clemson in the end. BUT with a talking to from his father, Nick Saban, possibly a subpar season Clemson and wanting to play on a big time stage for the SEC, I believe the #1 recruit in the nation ends up in Tuscaloosa, Alabama. It'll be interesting seeing the top 2 living room coaches in America going at it. That is for sure.

The kids going to be a good player but just like the past handful of "can't miss" dline recruits to go upstate he'll never reach his potential. I know they like to talk about guys making it to the NFL but the track record for success once there leaves a lot to be desired. Their coaches are great salesman but they just dont develop players once they make it on campus.
Still not a bad deal for them and if he signs it only took 3 scholarships to lock him in. |
