Yes, what Sandusky did didn't effect the football program but Paterno and company covering it up did. All the top people in charge were more concerned about bad publicity which WOULD EFFECT THERE FOOTBALL PROGRAM than they were about the well being of young boys.

SSO I understand where you're coming from, but if that's true then how come the NCAA hasn't gotten involved in players that get arrested for drugs, DUI or domestic violence (or any other law a player breaks)?

OK, screw you buddy. Not cool to compare me, who has stated numerous rational reasons for finding alternative penalties, to people who covered up for a child molestor. I have said again and again that football is NOT more important than a child's well-being. If you choose to ignore what I say or disagree or just feel that generalizations are good enough, that's your prerogative. But how dare you make that comparison?

we're not talking a coverup in those instances though, or something this heinous. obviously we're talking a gray area because this is the first time something like this has happened on a major college level, but i cringe everytime someone posts "right" or "fair" when it comes to sanctions against penn state.

This situation is far worse than anything any other school has ever done. Not only should the football program be shut down, I'm not sure the school will be able to survive the financial cost of these lawsuits, not to mention the negative publicity. After hearing the recent news about the school's cover-up at the highest level for over a decade, it's possible the settlement could be $1-2 billion. I'm not sure how often we'll be hearing the name "Happy Valley" any more.

I heard the 1-2 billion range as well because they believed that many many more would come forward after he was convicted.

in my opinion you do those victims a disjustice by not giving psu the death penalty...those players there today arn't there if this had come out when it should have

The situation with penn state is very unique. I don't think we should give penn state the death penalty. Definitely ban them from the post season at most. But i think it would be a good thing for penn state to be on tv every weekend just to raise awareness of child molestation and rape. As the NCAA i would make the university donate all profit from football to organizations to help victims.

I do not know but if the NCAA is preaching intergity like it claims you would think off the field incidents would part of it. I think it should be involved as the oversight of its member institutions to make sure that student athletes are properly punished for arrests, drugs etc so you don't have the Sammy Watkins of the world not getting so much as a slap on the wrist for getting arrested. If you come down to it a star player gets arrested and released on bail the week of the BCS Championship and plays in the game they are indeed having a competive advantage when they should be suspended.

I think the NCAA should stay out of it and let the judicial system handle it. Just my opinion.

I feel like if I was a parent I would be concerned with the mental well being of my child and the individuals that were involved with the cover up rather than whether or not Penn State gets to play football.

Even though that PSU cared more about millions and millions of dollars rather than the well being of your child?

Avoiding a DISadvantage = an advantage. PSU avoided a significant disadvantage all of those years that they covered up the scandal and provided access by JS to their facilities and program. The disadvantage, which PSU will now realize, comes from the tainting of their reputation, possible negative recruiting by other programs, losing recruits, etc. that will hurt their program and were exactly what Paterno et al were trying to avoid.

To be honest I think it's a lot more complicated than that, and "that PSU" was the 4 people involved in the coverup that are no longer there. Why would I care about the football program? I care about JoePa and the president and sandusky, etc, etc

No it's not. If that's the case then any program who doesn't lay out all of it's problems for recruits is committing a violation.

I've read 30-40 victims. Don't ever bet against a jury especially everything associated with this including a full scale cover up.
