Grumpy Old Fart
|
Most prefab sauces are nothing more than badly flavored liquid sodium. Publix had these new Progresso things on BOGO though and I had coupons. I was able to buy one each of their four flavors for the price of one can. I used the portabello mushroom one last night. It was actually quite good and packed only 430mg of sodium per half cup.
I made some meatballs and browned them well and drained the skillet. I sauteed some onion and garlic in a bit of EVOO and worsehershittoshirelything sauce. Stirred in the can of sauce and then added the meatballs back and let that simmer for a bit. I then thickened the whole mess up with a bunch of shredded cheeses. Everyone raved about them and the sauce was excellent over mashed potatoes. Now I am looking forward to trying the other varieties: http://www.progresso.com/RecipeStart...reatID1=Recipe

Most of those canned/jarred sauces give me heartburn like crazy. I may have to try that one though.
