When that came out, I actually became interested in Michael Jackson. I wanted to hear it because at that time, there was no one on earth who could touch EVH on guitar, no one.

The only thing better than EVH doing a guest solo was my collection of AC/DC cassettes.

I just remember Van Halen II and Fair Warning first. Beat It's a great song, but to me it's rather pedestrian for Eddie.

I'm curious, why did you pick November Rain for Slash instead of his MJ solos?

Yes he does.

Of course, he whined for 5 years about the song before finally recording it, saying that if they "couldn't get it right he'd quit the business."

i saw Slash at carolina rebellion in may2012. he started doing gnr songs and about half the 50000 people were chanting f... axl. that was hilarious. both evh and slash are great axmen. that makes it so hard to choose

You are not alone. I can...could...barely deal with any aspect of Axl's entire schtick. Especially at the point where he was under the impression he could some how 'sing' and that anyone wanted to hear him play the piano.

And just to be clear 'AFD' is one of the greatest debut albums of all time. I only saw GNR once on the the UYI tour and simply put it is still one of the worst concerts I've ever seen...and I have seen hundreds of live musical performances.

Axl Rose was literally just sitting on the stage reading the lyrics off the teleprompter while Slash, Duff and Izzy tried to get him to even pretend to give a *(&^...well Izzy wasn't trying he was ready to tell Axl to suck it and shortly after walked away because he had enough.

But again, when they first broke they were a force of nature. If you weren't there at the very beginning you can't imagine how awesome that first disc really was.

BTW...I went with Slash here. There are several dozen better EVH solos on the first four VH albums alone.
