Sam Montgomery Needs a Better Agent

Some things are better left unsaid.

In his Combine media interview, LSU DE Sam Montgomery admitted to betting in college and taking games -- not plays -- games off when the Tigers faced lesser opponents.

Montgomery's agent should have advised him before the Combine that saying things like this is not smart. At all. "Some weeks when we didn’t have to play the harder teams, there were some times when effort was not needed," Montgomery said. "But when we had the big boys coming in, the ‘Bamas or the South Carolinas, I grabbed close to those guys and went all out." Montgomery detailed "hundreds of dollars" in bets with teammate Barkevious Mingo, including one for $5,000 on which LSU defensive end will be drafted higher. We'd wager -- heavily -- that it won't be Montgomery. Draft insider Tony Pauline reported late Saturday that LSU's coaching staff has been "slamming" Montgomery to NFL teams.

I really hate how gambling and Vegas has become so entrenched in sports and can affect the overall outcome.

I'm sure some don't agree and that's fine. Gambling is just one of those things I consider a huge pet peeve of mine.

Wow, I've lost some respect for Montgomery. I hate players that take plays off or don't give their all everytime on the field, court, etc. It makes me kind of glad he doesn't represent USC.

Yeah I'm sure you've never gotten on the internet at work, taken a smoke break, joked with coworkers, had a long lunch...

Or missed a single homework assignment, skilpped class, hung out with friends instead of studying.

And those things are much easier than even a couple of full effort plays in football. Also remember this is a college kid with courseload in addition to GAME of football...fact is, something has to give. Maybe don't be so judgemental of a kid who probably puts more effort into his "work" than you've ever had to dream of.

That's a piss poor attitude to take and at a time where he is interviewing for the most important job and highest paying of his life. You think an NFL GM reads this and is like yeah, so what it happens... No. Shitty time for him to say it and why even come out in public and say it? So does that mean when he is getting paid millions that it will be okay if he doesn't go that hard against the bills, dolphins, chargers, rams, etc.

I think Sam didn't have as good a season as was expected last season, and he might be trying to explain for it other than he just wasn't as good as many thought. Trying to make it seem that he COULD'VE done much better, but simply chose not to. But I think this strategy could end up biting him more than not using it...

No I agree that it was stupid to say - nobody should ever go into a job interview and talk about doing the things I listed..my point was having that attitude towards somebody that's probably worked harder than you've ever even tried is just asinine and hypocritical.
