Default Facilities improvements (football)

Which improvements are to be completed before the beginning of the 2013 season? Aren't they going to complete landscaping, etc in the old stadium parking this summer? What about the indoor practice facility?

they are indeed supposed to get rid of the concrete around the immediate area of the stadium and green it up, as well as build a new indoor facility. however, i don't think they are doing it this off-season. i think i read that it is scheduled for next off-season. but i could be wrong on that.
it would be great for them to get these things done this off-season. but considering how much they have completed over the last several years, i am sure we are all willing to give them the benefit of the doubt right now if they can't do any more at this time. i think they need to sure up some of the loans, and other projects before they can do the rest. but with tanner at the helm, i think the fund raising will continue to go up, and we will continue to see improvements.

You are correct. The "plaza" around the stadium and the indoor practice field will not be done until next offseason.

They were supposed to start a few upgrades this year, but the Video Board and farmers market took a lot of cash out of the athletic department's wallet.

One thing that amazes me every year is that there is zero walking area down Bluff Road right as you get to the stadium coming from I-77. I get off of I-77 and go up Bluff Road to the fairgrounds and right when you get to the stadium people try to walk down Bluff Road and there is absolutely no shoulder. There are bushes right off the street that separate Bluff Road from the concrete parking area and area where the TV trucks sit. I have always thought this was really dangerous.

The video board was paid for with private funds.

In-door practice facility is a big waste of money IMO. I'd much rather see it used to beautify areas around the stadium.

tell that to the players who have to sweat their asses off in 96 degree weather with 1000000% humidity. or.... closed practices because of rain and lightning.

I can see an indoor practice facility for rain and lightning but not heat and humidity. They need to practice in that so that they can play in that...unless the Brice is going to be domed.

Yeah. Our team doesn't need good pratices facilities as long as the stadium grounds are top notch.

Even spurrier says the indoor practice facility is of marginal utility at best, but the recruits don't know that, so it takes priority.

How has Spurrier done so well with your program without an indoor facility? I can't believe the level he has taken your program with all the disadvantages you've had over that time.

Pathetic how awful we've been with the top facilities and tradition we have. Terrible Coaching is Terrible.

The control room equipment for Williams-Brice was paid for with University funds, and was $1.7 million.

Not that $1.7m is going to break the athletic department. . . .

We have a indoor facility but it's old and small. A new indoor facility should be at the top of the list for a team that wants to compete for a SEC/National title. Without all the upgrades we have had to the locker room, training facility, academic center, ...... we would never have gotten the players to get us to where we are today.

A tunnel under Bluff Rd and George Rogers Blvd would be an awesome addition.

What an incredibly selfish opinion.

You'd rather the money be spent on things that make YOUR gameday experience better, rather than something that could improve the quality of the career of the student athletes?

When we get those random afternoon severe thunderstorms in August - September, you'd rather tell the players "tough sh*t...I want my gameday experience more than your safety"?

The indoor practice facility is the FIRST thing that needs to be done...we are behind many other programs we compete against for recruits in that area.

They want the indoor facility the most because they can hold their Summer camps in there.

It won't just be the indoor practice field, all practice fields will be moved over there. Mostly because the national guard owns the land the proving grounds are on and the university would rather not be on that lease.

They have also been notified that the lease won't be renewed. The national guard is gonna start using that plot soon. That is why the approval for the indoor practice facility wasn't hard to get.
