I just heard the guy that was the starting TE for Stanford last year on espn radio. Cowheard was asking him about the classes he took at Stanford. He said that he was allowed to take football as a class once every year and get credit for it. I'm all for it, but I wondered if every college did this. Does anyone know if USC does this?

At Newberry College in the mid 80's they offered 1 hour credits for classes labeled "Theory Coaching..." football, basketball, baseball, etc. I took all of these as electives (was a biology major). So, yeah, I can see it. These were one and done though. They didn't have 4 levels as you matriculated.
These were offered thru the Phys. Ed. dept.

There's a link to all the PEDU classes USC is offering next spring. They are usually only 1 credit hour but you can take anything from shag to golf to sailing to horseback riding.

One of my classes at USC we had 100 points to spend to buy college football teams and play them weekly. 9 teams of 3 individuals did a draft in class and kept up with who to put in the pool that week. Teams would be awared points for playing conference games and winning or playing against a ranked team and winning. If you had a team that lost 2 times, they were taken off of your roster and a silent bid was done by the other 8 teams to take that team over. It was fantasy football and lasted the entire fall semester... one of my favorite classes

It's a 2 credit class. Yeah, I know about all of the easy classes you can take. Heck, I took golf when I was in college. But I was curious about being able to take it for every year. I was wondering how many schools do that. People fuss about the sec doing all of these shady things to win, but if we don't allow a 4 year football class for the players and Stanford does... Not to mention the questions of how it counts against the players practice hours that the NCAA gives as a maximum.

I took bowling and weightlifting at Carolina. Learned a LOT in the bowling class and consistently was able to bowl in the low 200's.
To be honest, looking back I wish I would have taken more of those classes...many things I would have liked to explore for a whole semester at a cheaper rate than private lessons: archery, scuba diving, tae kwon do, sailing.

Honestly, I don't see a problem with it because it is no different than any other student taking advantage of their own talent and skills and going after the easy A for a change.

I love this thread. I took so many of those easy classes at USC - bowling, fencing, beginner guitar, etc.

The rule is that Universities can have easy classes on whatever the heck they want to (Football, facebooking, or Lady Gaga) and it's straight for football players/athletes to enroll in them AS LONG as normal students can enroll in them as well. I've taken weight training and rock climbing at USC and they were awesome.. especially rock climbing. Everyone should try it.
