I will give credit where credit is due. This was an idea created out of Yancey's thread and 05USCGrad's suggestion for a Beer thread.
Discuss beers you like, beers you have found in interesting places, cool beer stories, and anything else you would like relating to this amazing beverage. |

im not an al alcoholic anymore, i drink a beer once in a while but this is my taste.
i like dark beer, but not too strong. 1. newcastle, i love it. 2. black yuengling, love it. 3. a german beer but i forgot the name, and is hard to spell it. 4. perroni (italian) 5. honey brown 6. heineken 7. caguama (salvadoran) 8. corona/miller i think guiness taste weird. and then i can hang with budweiser sometimes. dos equis is wayyyy overrated. stella is ok.

Some things I learned from my days overseas,
If you buy imported bottled beer, get the dark glass ones, the light glass does not keep out UV, and the beer gets ruined in 2 weeks. .5L should be the standard bottle size, and we should be able to recycle at the beer store where we bought it from, for a substantial discount on the next box of beer. American Pale Lager will get you drunk, but actual beer will make you happy. Support Sam Adams and Sierra Nevada. Watch the documentary 'Beer Wars'

And .5L should be the minimum standard...but if I bottle, I go with the 22 oz.'ers I hate washing bottles...

Blue Moon has been my go to beer for a while now. I also enjoy many of the other wheat beers. Pyramid Hefeweizen is another good one, but I have a hard time finding that one.
Guiness is also one of my all time favorites, but it's one of those tastes that is hard to replicate in a bottle or can. So I normally only drink that in a bar that carries it on tap. Corona is my favorite for the end to a day of doing yard work in the summer. I had Bitburger when I was in Germany, and that is a really good one too. I've had many other domestic and import brews that are also pretty good. I'll drink some of the lower quality ones like Budweiser when nothing else is available or I'm just being cheap. The only one I refuse to pay money for is Bud Lite.

Great Thread!!! I love beer. I love drinking beer. I love trying new beer. I'm just going to go ahead a do a top 5 (in no particular order).
One of my favorite local brews is Christian Moerlien. I discovered it when I moved up here 3 years ago. It's an american red ale with a caramel component and spicy clean hops. It's now in my top 5. ![]() Also love Samuel Smith's oatmeal Stout. It's a full bodied flavorful brew with creamy textures. It has a nice hint of chocolate as well. ![]() One of my favorites in Leinenkugel Honey Weiss. When I lived on the Gulf Coast 3 years ago, I went into a Piggly Wiggly and they had a pallet of Leinenkugal Honey Weiss in the middle of the floor. They were blowing their inventory out at $2 a 6 pack. I bought all that would fit in my cart. 6 pack of any Leinenkugal's brew here is easily 7-8 bucks. I've also been to Chippewa Falls, WI where it's made. Very cool. ![]() I can't say enough about Samuel Adam's Brewing Co and the quality products they put out. I am going to lump 2 of my favorites into this one and just label it Sam Adams. Chocolate Bock: It's pretty much like drinking a Hershey Bar. This is a deliciously smooth chocolatey beer. I first tried it in one of those Sammy variety packs. I guess I thought it would be more pungent and bitter. I was thrown off initially by how how smooth and drinkable it was. I was pleasantly suprised and have not been able to stop drinking it since. ![]() Also love Sam Adams Summer Ale. Drank it all summer long. It has a nice citrus smell. It has a hint of wheat and some nice fruitty undertones. Great Beer! I'm rounding out my top 5 with Sweet Water Brewing Comany's 420 Extra Pale Ale. I can put a 6 pack of this stuff back in NO TIME. Good citrus flavor and hop bite for a pale ale. Nice malt balance. Leaves a great grassy, lemony aftertaste. ![]()

In my refrigerator is:
1)Sierra Nevada Stout - definitely better Stouts out there. I am a fan of SN Pale Ale, but there Stout is just ok as far as stouts go. Poster above with Samuel SMith is dead on. Also, Mendocino Brewery has a seasonal Oatmeal Stout that is great. 2) Heavy Seas Loose Cannon - very good IPA, very fruity aromas. But not dry at all. Was pleasantly surprised. 3) Some Belgian Beer my wife insisted we buy. Nothing I ever heard of. Will have to check. 4) Usually keep some sort of Dog Fish Head too, but nothing there. Two beers I recommend but dont have on hand right now by Kona Brewery: Fire Rock Pale Ale and Kona Porter...great beers, cheaper in the states than on the Islands..was told that was because the beer actually gets shipped off the island for bottling..When we were down for the Arkansas game, we stopped at the Piggy Wiggly up from Five Points and it both were on sale for $3.99/6 pack....thats insane...retails for about $9.99 here by me. |

Best five beers I've ever had would be: Surly Abrasive Ale - Honestly, it might be worth it to move to Minnesota just to be able to drink beers from Surly all the time. Abrasive Ale is their Imperial IPA, and Furious (IPA), Coffee Bender (brown ale), and Cynic Ale (saison) are all phenomenal. Trappist Westvleteren 12 - Worthy of the hype. I've had it on a few occasions and have a bottle or two sitting around, and it never disappoints. Not an easy beer to get by any means, so if you're looking for a great Belgian quad, might as well go with Rochefort 10 or St. Bernardus Abt 12, as both are very readily available. Midnight Sun Sloth - Sadly, this one's been retired for a while now. One of my beer buddies traded for a bottle of this gem from Alaska and shared it at a group tasting last winter. Just an incredible beer. It's pretty much a combination of every great flavor you'd find in a quad and an imperial stout. COAST Jack Daniels Barrel Aged Blackbeerd - Unfortunately, another one-time bottle release, and this one was only 96 bottles. Regular Blackbeerd is a great imperial stout, and this version spent some time in Jack Daniels barrels. Perfect balance of flavors, which was a huge bonus, as most barrel-aged imperial stouts turn out way out of balance and too boozy. COAST has since released a Buffalo Trace version, but I haven't tried it. New Belgium Love - Perfection. It was on tap at Brewvival last year in Charleston, and I made sure I had my fair share of samples. And for a best five that are readily available: Duvel Bell's Kalamazoo Stout Oskar Blues Ten FIDY Bell's Two Hearted Ale North Coast Old Rasputin
