When an article's title says that Vandy and South Carolina are the top 2 in the SEC, I have to laugh......that's not even remotely accurate.

They actually explain it.

Winners: While Georgia and LSU had 8 and 9 draft picks respectively, they also averaged top 10 recruiting classes over the relevant time period. South Carolina had 7 picks with talent that on average was just inside the top 20! Vanderbilt by FAR had the worst rated incoming talent during this period, but they still doubled up Auburn in terms of their number of draft picks!

Middle of the Pack: It may surprise many to see Alabama and Florida listed in the “Middle of the Pack”. After all, these schools produced 17 picks between the two of them. Remember, we are measuring the ability of schools to convert their incoming talent into draft picks. These schools had amazing recruiting classes every year. Given such a high level of talent, we would have expected at least one or two more picks per school to put them in the “Winners” category.

I read enough of the article to understand that this is just another way of manipulating numbers. Perhaps a better assessment of draft picks is how many kids from each school get drafted, how many stick with a team and how many start in the NFL. In the last 5 years how many starters are there in the NFL from each school.....Carolina has Gilmore, Ingram, Jeffrey, Robinson, Culliver, tight end (can't think of his name)....no QB, no RB, no OL, no DL, no LB.
Other SEC teams have at least 2-3 starters each year in the NFL.....some maybe 4-5 each year.

That's great....let's see if he makes the team, then if he starts. I hope he does, that would be great. Some of these people think it's a big deal to get drafted or sign on a undrafted free agent contract. That's all well an good, but it means nothing if you're not on the 53 man roster.

Clearly you didn't do any research behind this. Munnerlyn, Rice, and Jonathon Joseph have been starters. Then on the O-line, I'm pretty sure Lemuel Jeanpierre and Jamon Meredith have both been starters at some point. Don't forget John Abraham on the D-line either.

b381l i understand what youre saying, but the article is only about drafted talent relative to national signing day rankings. yes we dont know how good the draftees will be on this level until they make a team and play, but you can use that same logic about signing day rankings. the better way of keeping it within that context of ranking players before theyve played a snap on that level while going more in depth is to break it down by the rounds they were drafted.

its sorta different if one school has five 1st rounders and three 2nd rounders while the other school has one 1st rounder and seven 7th rounders. i would just make it a little more detailed in that respect rather than treating every draftee the same.

Wesley Saunders and Jared Cook both played tight end within the last 5 yrs here!!! Melvin Ingram, Cliff Mathews, Eric Norwood, Travian Robertson, and now Devin Taylor and Byron Jerideau were all D lineman for us and will/are contributing to their NFL Teams. I see what you are saying though.. That we don't have all the key players in key positions to be considered the best of the best... I think we are very close though
