It doesn't happen here as often as it does at other schools, but it does happen.

I must admit, I never bought into the whole idea of recruits being swayed by message boards. I have never (to my knowledge) gone to the point of personally bashing a player. The closest I came was Matt Rolin, and that was simply pointing out his communications (tweets he was sending, things he was saying) that I felt ran contrary to his decisions. But overall I just kept saying its disappointing, not anything beyond that.

As hard as it is for me to believe, I guess these boards can be a place recruits and their families get positive or negative impressions of our fanbase and school. I hope all recruits take her advice and not judge a fanbase because of a few people, but I will certainly be encouraging people to take negative comments elsewhere and reporting posts that cross that line from now on.

That's probably the reason I like CockyTalk the best. They do a fine job of keeping the personal insults off the forums. I think it's good they lock threads after a kid as committed somewhere else as well.

One of the main reasons we don't allow player, coach, or recruit bashing on this board. Some folks don't like it and call us nazis or what not. But there is a reason. The founders and admins of this board are diehard Gamecocks and the last thing they want to see is something posted on this board negatively impact our team or university.

And we know for a fact that at least some players and recruits do read what's posted here.

Great read. We should all remember that the recruits are someone's son or daughter. How would you feel to see your son or daughter called names simply because of the College they chose

Agree completely. Recruiting news is way overdone; however, when you visit and post on message boards that in it's mere existence is the frays of fans you invite some of that too.

The best thing to do is let it all play out behind the scenes, make an announcement, and then shut it down. Why even listen to opinions of those who matter nothing?

Finally, high level recruits are afforded opportunities that others are not, and with that comes bs. That's how life is.

That is my opinion on a mother's opinion of recruiting on a fan's message board full of crazed enough people to spend hours and days of their limited life reading and posting on a message board. Go Cocks.
