I was going to respond to one of your posts but they've all been blocked.

I do agree that TN has a long way to go, but there were a few recipes missing from our program that made it successful in the past, the past few years.

1. We had a staff that never gelled
2. We had a HC that had no winning history to get behind
3. We were getting average (by our standards) recruiting classes
4. We couldn't close out any wins on the field.

So far it looks like 3 of those 4 has drastically changed in only 3 short months!

1. This staff has been together for years. They are all on board with Jones' plan and are working together towards one goal.
2. Whether you respect it or not Jones has a winning history as a head coach. 50-27 is impressive, 4 out of 6 conference championships is impressive. I don't care how many other coaches we passed over for him, he's got a great resume.

I want to clarify that we are not near close to passing you up and I do expect growing pains.

I honestly didn't think UT was too far away to begin with. They haven't had the talent in the past years, but frankly if they had a decent defense then the games last year could have been different.

They are behind in seasons now so it may take a few years, but some people seem to think UT will be down for decades.

Doesn't sound like a guy who will flip. I love that Butch talks National Championships and not all the reasons that it will be hard for TN to get back to the top like Dooley did!

"I've been thinking about it for a little while now, after the first time I went there I knew in my heart I wanted to go to UT," Hurd said.

The Beech High School product said he knew there was no reason to wait any longer and wants to begin helping future teammates Todd Kelly Jr. and Vic Wharton recruit for the Vols.

"I just feel like it's the right time. I know in my heart I'm going to go there and there's no sense in waiting anymore," Hurd offered. "I'm just trying to have time with my fellow teammates and start recruiting with Todd and Vic and it's a real exciting moment."

Hurd said having the first-year head coach in Jones and his staff was a big reason he chose the Vols, knowing after his visit last month that Tennessee was the place for him.
Hurd is a huge get for Jones.
"Coach Jones is a very genuine guy and I love every staff member and I have a personal relationship with all of them and I just clicked with them," Hurd said. "I knew this is where I wanted to be after I got done with my visit."

During that visit, Hurd said he found everything he wanted in a program.

"I saw the facilities, I saw the academic program, I saw how I clicked with the coaches and that relationship. I saw how the fans reacted to me," Hurd said. "
I saw how much support I would have staying home and just all those put together I just knew it was the place to be."

Another large factor in his decision was the fact the Vols have lacked a premier running back in recent years and Hurd wants to bring back the pride that comes with the tailback position at Tennessee.

"UT's known for its running backs and people running the ball and they haven't had that in a minute so I'm going to try and bring that back and try and bring us back to a national championship," Hurd said.

Hurd said that he's excited to play alongside Wharton and Kelly, who have both been working on him for several months now.

"It's amazing. In the end it still comes down to my decision, but I'm really happy I get to play with those stellar athletes and we're going to try and make this team the best it could be and win a national championship," Hurd said.

"I'm going to be on them non-stop from now on. I know Nick Glass, I know there are others an there are going to be many," Hurd said. "When I talk to coach Jones this weekend while I'm down there I'm going to get a list and go to work."

Hurd is ranked the No. 15 player in the country

It wasn't that long ago that we were UT's whipping boy, so speaking condescendingly to their fans and bragging about how we are "one of the big boys in the SEC" makes you look like an ignorant @$$hole. We've never even won the conference one single time.

It's not a matter of if, but when, UT becomes competitive in the conference again. The infrastructure is in place, all that they have been lacking is the right administration and staff. Whether or not Butch Jones will bring them back, I do not know.

Well, thank goodness a college football elitist could come into this thread with some "common, rational sense". What difference does 'who has the better program' make when the two football teams meet on the field this fall? Yes, obviously ut has a better program than vandy..but vandy handled them on the field last year and is in position to do so again, imo. Same way I feel about Carolina/clemson, a&m/texas..heck even lil ol uga has managed to win a few against florida. Maybe when we open up the 'Who has a better program' thread all of this stuff will matter...but until then I think i'll judge by the product that is currently being put on the field.

Agreed, the main thing we have really lacked is coaching...if we can add that and get back to the top level of talent. We will be just as good as ever.

I still think the next couple years could be rough.

We lost a lot of talent off our offense last year, and well we all know our defense is not great.

Then after this year we graduate our entire offensive line...which is never a good recipe in the SEC.

But I think Butch is going to have our teams playing better than expected instead of the opposite like Dooley!

Yes I do think we should be Vandy this year.

We have more talent then them and I believe our coaching staff is good at what they do.

We play them at home as well and have a bye before that game.

Well, I didn't really expect you to say otherwise. Your never say die attitude has been cute to watch the last few years. I know all to well how it feels and am thankful to be on the other side of that room the last few years. And instead of worrying about when it will change or when the normal order of the universe will be restored...i'll just continue to enjoy the ride.

I will say..you guys have all the right parts in place to make a quick--er turnaround if the admin side can get right. Fanbase, facilities, and tradition. Those are things that are not easily or quickly attained

eh...he landed a highly rated instate player along with a highly rated legacy. Regardless if they are instate or a legacy they are great players according to these sites. Wouldn't get too hyped right now about his recruiting quite yet.

btw that #10 national player, no way he plays RB in college. 6ft3...Derrick Henry for Alabama is a prime example. JMO

Tennessee will be good again. USC is better than good at the moment, but everything hinges on the next coaching change. We need to keep the spirit alive. Tennessee will be lurking.
