FWIW, this is a local story for us here in Utah. It's true that the kid was a high schools student, but this was not a school affiliated league. If I know Utah courts, the "kid" is going to be tried as an Adult for murder.

This was a semi organized league for hispanics. They do the full on party at these leagues. Music bbq debauchery really surprised a school would allow them to use their facilities. If it is like the ones i have seen here in sc it is mostly illegals.

O.K., this was terrible..but the kid obviously had no premeditated intent or any expectation that the guy would be killed or even seriously hurt.
There should be consequences, but anybody calling for the chair or life in prison is not thinking straight.

Perhaps.

But it seems that the event that ended one person's life was caused by the intentional actions of another person. He didn't trip with his hand held out and hit the other guy's head. I am interested to know where he hit him and how hard. (temple, jaw, nose?)

If you attack someone, you should accept responsibility for the results.

Probably, but usually the highest charge is given initially.

i read another piece which stated that the dead ref had his ribs broken and a leg broken in two separate events..guy shouldve retired then.

He should be treated as an adult and charged with murder. If he is found guilty then he should receive the death penalty.

How can you tell there was no premeditated intent? There is no video with this story to prove one way or the other. Very well could have intended to seriously hurt the ref after the yellow card.

Looks like im in the minority here. If he just threw one single punch he should be charged with nothing more then AA. This could happen anywhere a high school, a sporting event, at a bar. Just bad luck for both involved.

Disagree. He was an aggressor and its manslaughter but not murder IMO. Nobody should be throwing punches unless defending themselves. And bad luck for both involved? Really? Dude died bad luck would have been a broken jaw on one punch.

If I throw a single punch at someone at a bar or when I was in high school the last thing im thinking about or trying to do is kill the guy. Yes bad luck for both involved. I can be 100% sure if it was a single punch the kid wasnt planning on killing the dude.
