Early and effective HIV treatment may, in a small fraction of patients, lead to a so-called functional cure, French researchers found.
Fourteen patients who were treated within the first two months of infection were later able to stop combination antiretroviral therapy without an HIV rebound, according to Asier Sáez-Cirión of the Institut Pasteur in Paris.
While all 14 still have HIV, in most cases it can only be detected with ultrasensitive laboratory tests and is undetectable by standard methods, Sáez-Cirión and colleagues reported in the journal PLoS Pathogens.

Los Angeles (CNN) -- Grammy-winning and multiplatinum-selling rapper Lil Wayne suffered a seizure and "is recovering," his record label's publicist said Friday.

The New Orleans artist arguably occupies the highest rungs of the hip-hop world, but he shares them with fellow rapper Drake, who hails from Toronto.
Drake appeared at the Los Angeles hospital, where Lil Wayne is being treated, with an entourage of Wayne's friends. They pulled up chairs in the hallway near his room and set up a vigil.

Twitter has lit up with rumors, spreading fears of the worst for Wayne's outcome, but a Tweet in his name attempted to calm the tempest.
"I'm good everybody," read a message from Lil Wayne's Twitter account. "Thnx for the prayers and love."

He has a history of seizures.

Lil Wayne was reported to have suffered seizure-like symptoms while on an private airplane in October 2012. On March 12, 2013, he was hospitalized after another seizure after shooting a music video in Los Angeles with Nicki Minaj.[106][107]

On March 15, 2013, it was reported that Wayne had been admitted to the Intensive Care Unit at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles after being discovered "shaking uncontrollably" and "unconscious". Wayne reportedly suffered several seizures a few days beforehand. TMZ stated Wayne was in critical condition and in an induced coma. According to TMZ "sources say there's evidence Wayne went on a Sizzurp binge after being released from the hospital on Wednesday, because doctors found high amounts of codeine in his system. Wanye's stomach was pumped 3 times to flush the drugs from his system." A few hours later it was reported his condition was stabilizing.[108] Shortly after YMCMB members Birdman and Mack Maine commented on his hospitalization saying he was in good condition and the previous reports were exaggerated, going on to say it was false that he was ever in a coma

Purple drank is confirmed or suspected to have caused the deaths of several prominent users. Respiratory depression is a potentially serious or fatal adverse drug reaction associated with the use of codeine, but mainly the danger lies in the much more potent and CNS-depressing phenothiazine-related antihistamine promethazine. This depression is dose-related and is the mechanism for the potentially fatal consequences of overdose: respiratory or cardiac arrest. As with most CNS depressants, mixing with alcohol greatly increases the risk of respiratory failure and other complications.[citation needed]

Ed Winter, assistant chief of the Coroner's Office, said the levels of the medication were elevated, but not enough to deem the death an overdose. A spokesman for the coroner's office said that the combination of sleep apnea and cough medication probably suppressed Pimp C's breathing long enough to bring on his death
