Shaw AFB Pilot killed in Afghanistan
Some of you may be aware that we had a F-16 crash in Afghanistan on the 3rd of April. Capt James "Mano" Steel didn't make it out, he was part of the 77th Fighter Squadron based out of Shaw AFB. He was a good friend and a good dude, this one hurts. Without going into too much detail the 77th was towards the end of their deployment when this happened. Please take a moment to think of his family, loved ones, and his Squadron in their time of grief...
Just figured this deserved some notice; none of the major News sites even bothered to report this. But that is Afghanistan in general these days. We were saddened by the news. Hate to hear about any pilot losing their life, but especially one from my birthplace. Many well wishes for you guys and his family.

Saw that earlier on the WIS facebook. I was really saddened to come across it and it did hit home and bit, even though I didn't know him, I can't imagine what the family is going through.

I worked with many, many airmen from Shaw over the last 6 years and was heartbroken when I heard this! These young men put it on the line every single day and I can't thank them enough for their courage and dedication. Thoughts are with the young mans family!

I lived on Shaw for 17 years, and it's always tough to lose a service member, especially when it hits that close to home. Mano Steel is an AWESOME nickname... he will be missed.

Ugh! First of all I'm sick of the media not reporting on these things. Our military deserves attention, especially when one dies. They should also be recognized for the good things they do.
Secondly, I hadn't heard this and am very sad to hear about it. Prayers sent to his family and friends. And, Mano, thank you so much for your service. |
